Ive done many searches- to cut a long story short- put 5-30 fully synthetic oil in the LCR (magnetec) now its 505.000 compatible and read the owners manual and this need to be covered in the spec (so should be good to go!)

Can people please explain why this is unsuitable after reading a few threads on here,

Ive got a tub of Mobil 1 so if needs be ill drop the oil (its done 10 miles) should i do new filter also?

Cheers

I don't think it is unsuitable buddy. From memory I think Magnetec comes in different formulations for different engines, only difference is the letter after the magnetec bit, but as long as the one you put in has the 505.00 etc then happy days
What have you read that makes you think that it's unsuitable?

Manual Transmission TAF-X 2.0
Automatic Transmission -
Differential From Gearbox
Coolant REFER TO MAIN DEALER (e) 7.0
Brake Fluid RESPONSE SUPER DOT 4
Grease Points LM GREASE
Constant Velocity Joints MOLY GREASE
Power Steering (where fitted) REFER TO MAIN DEALER

So am i reading into this correctly that the Magnatec 5W/30 would be fine for my car, even though they recommend 5W/30 EDGE ?

Andy
Magnatec does not meet any VW specifications. Magnatec is no good for VAG engines!! Edge is for the VAG group......

Castrol Edge 5/30

i think EDGE is just a newer version of MAGNATEC. Like i said in the first post there are different formulations of magnatec which most people don't realise. As long as your bottle had VW 505.00 etc on it then it is fine. Have a look at these two links and note the different letters and numbers after the magnetec bit. At first glance the same oil, but one is vw spec and one isn't

Hope that helps clear it up for you matey

Cheers for your input, bang on!

Seems after a bit of research and a email to castrol, magnatec it fine to use on a LCR no problem.

Seems EDGE is just a bit more money because it is :)

wonder how much stuff we buy because its BETTER (well we are told any way!)
