LCR Fans - Inside/Outside

Hello,

I bought a 52 plate LCR three weeks ago and I have to admit I haven't driven it much since the first week, I have been abroad with work a lot so haven't really been around much, therefore I have only done around 100 miles in it since the beginning of June!

I had to take it to my local dealer to get a spare key coded to the car and all was fine on the journey to the dealer and then on to work.

When I left work I noticed the cooling fans coming on every minute or so for five or six seconds. This is with the air con on, if I turn the air con off the fans stop.

I have read most of the posts on this forum in the last couple of months and of course I knew instantly that I have the slow speed circuit problem with the fans that is well documented on yhis excellent forum.

I have printed out the relevant sections of this forum and given them and the car to the dealers and it will be fixed under warranty, no problem so far.

There was, however, another issue that appeared at the same time that I wonder if anyone else has experienced, I haven't read anything about it.

When accelerating, in any gear at any speed and not particularly accelerating hard, the interior fans volume (both noise and airflow) increase dramatically for a second or two and then rturn to normal, the display on the climate control does not show any increase in fan speed. it was on two bars all the time and in manual control because of the problem with the cooling fans.

It sounds really weird and is not all that pleasant, I have told the dealer about it and I dare say they will investigate and fix as necessary. Has anybody else experienced this, I have explained it as well as I think I can.

Thanks,

Matthew.

I had the first problem which I flagged up when getting my car fixed after failing its MOT. They replaced the fans on warranty and now its all working fine.
Second problem is a tad weird. The aircon runs off the engine and the faster you go the colder the air coming from the fans. The normal fans just run off the electrics. I suspect that when accelerating hard with aircon on the system has a build up of cold air and subsequantly the fans increase slightly to accomedate.

I could be completely wrong though

Thanks for the replies.

I don't really know what it can be, it does this whether the air con is on or off and the fans don't get faster the faster I go, its just a quick blast for a second or two as I initially accelerate. As I said, I hadn't seen anything written about this and its just really weird.

I will wait and see what happens when I get it back.

Matthew.

That sounds possible, its sat in my garage for three weeks and the battery was as flat as it could be, maybe it hasn't truly recovered or maybe the surge from the fans coming on at high speed or the current draw is hammering my not fully charged battery.

have you tried driving with the resirc valve on it not just increased air flow through the heater vent? just a thought. also with aircon on the cooling fans will opperate to cool the condensor thats how air con works if the condensor doesnt remove the heat the pressure in the system will go out of tolerence and the tripple pressure switch will shut the system down untill pressure drops again

It sounds like its all connected to my cooling fan problem and probably my less than fully charged battery. Its was doing all this without the air conditioning on. The car is with the dealer now and I don't think I will see it until sometime next week as I won't be able to collect it for a few days even if they have fixed it.

Hopefully all the problems will have gone and I can get on with enjoying it for a while!

I heard from the dealer today, new fans are required (as I already knew thanks to this site) and should be in and fitted tomorrow.

Seems to have been painless in respect of convincing them what the problem was (its a warranty claim so I was expecting `they're meant to do that' etc etc), maybe the copies of threads about the subject that I left with the car helped?
