Hello everyone at Seatcupra :)!

About two months ago i bought a custom FMIC-kit from ebay, really similar to the Toyosports FMIC kit. At this time my car was still new to me, i didn't know that the LCR 2003 came with doubble Intercoolers at stock (serial-connected).

In this thread i want to discuss whether it's worth installing this custom FMIC kit and removing the stock intercoolers. My car is tuned to around 270 bhp, the new intercooler is around the same size as the Toyosports one.

Any experienced guys that has an opinion on this. How good is the stock intercoolers vs custom kit's etc etc...
Would appreciate any answer/thoughts on this since im very lost right now and not sure if i wasted 200 EURO on a FMIC kit that potentially won't do any difference at all:shrug: .

(not sure if im allowed to post a link to the FMIC-kit i bought)

Hello and welcome !
A good fmic will out perform the standard smic 's especially one you start tuning
The welly coolers have a good rep
I personally run a pro alloy fmic singlepass with 63mm pipework with good results

As above, it totally depends on the quality of the intercooler. A good FMIC will out perform the SMIC's any day. However some of the crap one's are just a waste of time.

Thanks for replying! based of what u guys wrote i gave the intercooler a try. The FMIC-kit i ordered from Performance Parts Direct UK is the biggest joke ever.

Anyways, today i removed the original intercoolers and started to mount the new one. The pipework isn't even close to be fitting. It just feels like i am missing some pipework. To be able to install this FMIC i would have to re locate the battery, remove the AC-pipes etc etc..

I feel really fooled by the seller of this item, i emailed them and said that i wanted to return the package but they're telling me it's to late since i've had the item for more than 2 months.

Very sad but true.

You shouldnt need to remove your battery dude.. If you have the appropriate pipework diameter (2.5inch) it should be easy to install..

This is what you would need:

WELLY COOLER SET UP:
This is the list of the ebay item numbers you will need to fit the welly cooler to your LCR.
You will also need about 100mm of straight 63mm alloy pipe. What I did was cut a piece off of the original pipe that runs across the bottom of your bumper and joins both SMIC's together.
200484166200 - This is the wellycooler. (BTW these are seconds so may have some minor damage, mine had a tiny scratch and a few bent fins, I put all the damage on the backside, you can buy a perfect one from the toyo website for about £170) You will also need 4x M8 (8mm thread) bolts as it doesn't come with any, I bought mine for £1.50 from B&Q.
190924410625 - 76mm - 63mm reducers, you will need two of these.
221308537631 - 45 degree alloy pipe, you will need two of these, 63mm external diameter.
151103376441 - 90 degree silicone pipe, you will need two of these, internal diameter 63mm
190951861249 - 90 degree alloy pipe, you will need two of these, 63mm external diameter.
170731918190 - Silicone joiner, you will need two of these, I bought one and cut it in half as you cant see it, these are to join the 100mm of straight pipe into the system.
141098012210 - These are the jubilee clips I used you want 60-80mm they are tight but they fit, you need about 12, I used 13 as one of my joints kept popping off under boost so I put an extra one on there, which holds fine.

Ignore the ebay item numbers..

I got my whole kit from ASH on ebay for around £125. Not fitted yet as i still need to upgrade upper boost hoses but am very assured it will be a straight forward job
