Basically this has happened 4 times recently, all in the morning in coldish weather but with a variety of driving the night before (ie both long and short trips).

I turn the key and nothing happens, and I mean nothing, na da, nyet. No apparent sound of starter motor, fuel pump or anything (though I really know nothing about cars so that could mean absolutely nothing what I just said).

In the end I get it to start by turning the key whilst depressing the accelerator. I wouldn't even say the engine sounds lumpy when it does start.

Have tried pumping the accelerator before hand (if the car hasn't started first time) though no reason to believe the engine is flooded and it has no apparent effect anyway.

The only thing of possible note is the 'battery' light (actually think it's the alternator warning light) remains on, but not sure if this wouldn't happen anyway when you start the car until it's all settled down.

Thanks for your help.

Do not touch acc pedle on DBW car when starting no effect anyhow apart from confusing ecu, get a battery under warrenty also get alternator checked etc

This did get resolved eventually. There was charge in the battery so that ruled that out. In the end it turned out that the ignition barrel needed replacing. Generally things electrical now seem a lot better.
