The twin fan issue shouldn't have any effect on the air con either. If you have an issue with hot air con, it's unrelated. Either the compressor is ****ed or it needs recharging.

I'm having issues with my Nime box...the fuse keeps blowing for some reason.

I think the only issues that could arise from the fan not being on constantly is when it's a baking hot day and your at a standstill in traffic...so all that hot air is just sitting under the bonnet which ultimately will cause your engine to overheat.

It won't cause overheating issues, because when it gets too hot, the high speed fan kicks in and cools it down. It's just you have a mid/low speed fan which should be doing the job with the large fan only kicking in in extreme circumstances. But seeing as the low/mid technically doesn't exist once the resistor blows, it's all up to the high speed one.

My understanding is, (especially with aircon on) due to not having a low/mid fan the increased frequency with which the high speed fan comes on, shortens its life, and may cause it to blow too. Leaving you with no cooling. So if you're stuck in traffic it's overheat time!

Yup it shortens the high speed fans life and if it goes you aint got feck all cooling you Air con and engine at standstill leading to air con fecking and engine cooking it's self

As for the resistors just get the next step up ones

Tried once will also post here.

Tried this in a seperate post with no joy so will also try here. Has anyone actually managed to change a slow fan on a cupra r 210, i have been trying all afternoon to get the fan unit out and have only achieved ripping my arm to shreds and getting pissed off. Got all but the screw near the elecrical plug out, one of the electrical plugs does not want to disconnect at all, which would give me the acce3ss. Just tried on the driveway, no ramps or anything. Please if anyone has managed it let me know. The resistor or nime fix is looking a much better proposition i have to say.

You won't be able to do it, the whole fan unit is quite large and needs to come out as one piece before you can remove the fans. You will need to get it up on ramps to slide out the bottom.

thought so, will try it with ramps, still looks a tight squeeze though, also how many screws need to come of before the bottom tray comes off?? Also did you have any trouble disconnecting one of the electrical plugs, probably easier to get to them from underneath i would guess.

Had my aircon regassed today and still not cold!! Both of my fans are failing to come on (even in this hot weather) and all the fuses are ok. I have no live feed to the compressor though. I have just ordered the nime box and hopefuly this will cure the problem.

Just done the resistor mod, using the two 1 Ohm 100W resistors mounted on a piece of aluminium and wired into the fan connectors.
I have to admit that is wasn't as easy as I first thought and allowed myself a day and a half to do it, but it has saved me £400+, and was also much cheaper than the NIME box. Only had to fork out £11 for the resistors, I already had some high temperature 2.5mm cable, heat shrink, bolts, and aluminium at home, but even so it wouldn't be too much more for that.

I sandwiched my aluminium plate between the battery tray and the chassis using the holes at 4 o'clock, 8 o'clock, and 10 o'clock to secure it. The aluminium plate then stuck out towards the gearbox/engine side, and I mounted the resistors on the underside hoping that they might be cooled better this way.

I found the trickiest part was getting to the connectors and then wiring in some 30A connection blocks (choc block) whilst battling with the black sleeving and the fact there is no slack in the cables at all! I then wrapped them in Denso tape (really sticky greasy fabric type tape), and moulded it round the connection blocks to try to make them watertight.

Just been out for a spin and it all seems fine! While you're doing it, just keep telling yourself "I'm saving myself 400quid, I'm saving myself 400quid....."
:)

EDIT: Just found out that the Denso tape is made from petroluem products... hmmmmmm.... :think:should be ok, but will post again if my engine bay catches fire!

Nime box has not fixed my problem. When i remove the 30amp green fuse on top of the battery nearest the engine while engine is running and then put it back in the fans will run on slow speed for ten seconds and the aircon compressor engages producing nice cold air inside the car. Then they stop! Have checked fans and I can get them to work at high speed as well, so they are not broken. Just don't know where the fault is!!!!

hey guys

I got the nime box, but never fitted it as i heard about the probs
in the end, they offered me a refund, which i took

in the end paid a fortune to get them fixed :(

however, i did keep the fans that came out of the car in case i had the issue again and there was a fix.

problem is, they are using up a load of space in my small shed, so if someone want to offer me some money for the 2, i'll post them, and you can do the mod at your leisure.

i guess you can sell yours once you've put in the fixed unit
The car has done 38k when they broke....not sure if thats relevent

no worries if not, but i was thinking it may make someones life a lot easier!!
cheers

Reviving an old thread:
I have had my car overheat slightly when it's hot outside and stuck in traffic.
The water temp needle rose above the normal 90 degree, as soon as i saw it rise i put the aircon on which made the fans come in on full speed (very loud).
When i got home from work tonight i lifted the bonnet and noticed that the fans weren't spinning at all, should they run on low speed all the time or not?

Also i don't know if this is relevent but on a couple of occasions when having the aircon on the car has gone into limp mode. I very rarely use the aircon, probably about 10 times in 4 years, lol. The air con does work well though (very cold).

Are the fans at fault and would any of the fix's make mine work properly as i can't really afford the £300 odd for new fans.

Cheers for any help.
