LCR vs CTR

Easy answer, drive both and decide for yourself, I have driven both and they are chalk and cheese........it's down to taste and what you want / need from your car

14.3 is the quickest remapped R i have seen. They are hard to launch though, therefore the 1/4 mile figure doesn't give a good account of the cars pace.

Not my thing 1/4mile......never tried

There are some cheap mod's to reduce TCS interaction and Wheel hop etc...Dog Bone Engine Mount £60 for the part (cheaper if you just buy replacement bushes)......Short Shifter may help keep the turbo on the boil similar cost......plenty can be done.

We had a track day at Donnington that showed the car up for what it was (a road car), intending to do a few more in the future and I'd love to do the 'Ring too.....if I could make the car my 2nd car (possibly 12-18months off) and have a different everyday car that would be ideal tho.

Launch was pretty good to be fair.. Maybe a little room for a slight improvement. I've got Conti sports on mine and they are 100000000000000000000000 times better than the shite P Zeros. But it was suffering from the heat and i was getting some flat spots in 3rd and 4th. That's why I think i'll sneak a 13.9 at some point, as the miles are starting to pile on and she's loosening up nicely... April is normally a good time of the year for times (so long as it's dry of course), as you can get some reasonably good air temps...

yeah i thought when i got my first R that i'd never get rid and mod it to be a track car but in the end i got a newer R and traded the old one in........felt really sorry for it as i left on the dealers forecourt!!!!! but that's history i guess, i don't think i'll keep this R forever though maybe a new cupra in a few years time or even something else........the lure of 4WD beckons!!! i don't think i'll ever go down the route of "well it's a car that gets me from A - B"

....i'll always get something which i enjoy driving every single time i get in it and with the LCR i do maybe one day when i'm old and grey [erm not gonna happen i'm bald!!! ] i'll get something just for the w/end and for the track

The car aside, Honda dealers are probably better than SEAT dealers in the main, and the satisfaction of ownership index is much higher for Honda as a brand than SEAT.

I love the LCR, but find it a little dull at times. There are days when I really wish I could drive something that would set my pulse alight and give me total confidence that I was glued to the road whilst doing it.

The LCR can cover distance deceptively quickly and in a fair amount of cossetted comfort. Its a natural progression from a CTR if comfort and refinement feature in your decision. You're not having to rag the bollox off it to get power which means you can proceed quickly and stealthily without the scream of VTEC rupturing your ear drums. That may not appeal, and if it doesn't then go VTEC.

I don't like the cheap tacky Honda dash, the curious gear stick arrangement or the constant drone on long motorway journeys, but when you drive one like you mean it they truely are an exceptional little hatchback for the money you pay. Yet again slightly ruined by the volume of sales, but ultimately its down to your priorities.

Max torque at 3500rpm or 8000rpm?
Comfort with performance or track focussed edgy?
3 doors or 5?
Stealthy or racous?
Honda reliability or SEAT value for money?
Low volume exclusivity or high volume highly rated?

Answer these questions successfully and you'll end up with the right car!

How much is the short shifter kit? I am at jabba tomorrow for the custom remap... Do you reckon they have them in and could fit me one? I could always get one after I suppose but I don't like spending in dribs and drabs - it seems less if you spend it all in one day!

I had a blat with a CTR about a week ago.

He gunned it off the roundabout, i followed, pulled out, overtook and then back in again just in time for the next roundabout and it was all within the space of around 0.5m (no nos use either) I can only assume he was flat to the floor by the way he left the roundabout and the fact the chase went over the ton mark.

For a car to do that to another in such a short space shows the performance difference.

Ben, its swings and roundabouts with hot days and cool days! A hot day and your going to launch perfectly but may suffer heatsoak hence your flatspots. On a cold day, you'll have no traction off the line and power in 1st and 2nd will send you wheelspinning, even more so with the cold dense air. 3rd and 4th will be good but with the time you've lost off the line and spinning to 60, will 3rd and 4th make it up?

I'll come along in april with you mate as im dying to get it up the strip.

Number of the beast.....My shortshifter was £140 from awesome gti (neuspeed) but you can get them cheaper at around £85.

Sort of mate. But that's why I say April. As it's warm enough to get traction, but cool enough to avoid flat spots... You can go to Pod at the end of Jan, when the intake temps will be REALLY low. But that's when you'll get sod all traction...

As has been pretty much been said, it's all about what you want from the car. The CTR is a quick, high revving track tool with a low - spec interior and has a bit of a dubious young boy racer image, where as the LCR is a very fast everyday car with understated looks that turn heads, good spec interior and a more mature image. The CTR's are also common as muck and more often than not driven by baseball cap wearing young hooligans driving like ar$eholes. I think pound for pound you get more for your money with a 1 / 2 year old LCR than the similar CTR. Don't forget there's also a new CTR coming out in the next year so your residuals will be hit as much as buying an LCR.

Yes definitely worthwhile, gives the box a much tighter and sportier feel!

I dont think they charged me for fitting as i was getting exhaust done at same time!

Although its only a 10min job
