difference.

Ben, its swings and roundabouts with hot days and cool days! A hot day and your going to launch perfectly but may suffer heatsoak hence your flatspots. On a cold day, you'll have no traction off the line and power in 1st and 2nd will send you wheelspinning, even more so with the cold dense air. 3rd and 4th will be good but with the time you've lost off the line and spinning to 60, will 3rd and 4th make it up?

First time I went to pod was April 2005 and it was a scorching hot day but the strip was so sticky you could hear the rubber peeling off the tyres as you lined up, got a 14.7 then a 14.6 that day when the car was standard and not really running at its best (dodgy MAF) went again in Jan 05 when the car was APR'd and got 3 or 4 runs at around 15.2 put the car back to standard and got a 14.9

.....so what are you saying? you just spun the wheels to much and couldn't get traction with the extra power???

......something else interesting is that on top gear the megane 225 went round their test track faster than the VXR astra and the alfa 147 GTA....i know the cars handling characteristics, weight and tyres etc all would play a big role but basically what i think it boiled down to was that the alfa and the vauxhall were just too powerful and had too much understeer, maybe this could apply to 1/4's too.........too much power and not enough grip??? - unless of course you modify it to compensate.

might stick my neck out here, but i wouldnt say the VTEC is any more reliable than the 20VT lump, ok we have our waterpump issues and MAF issues , but im sure if the VTEC had a turbo with 23psi of revo through it, it wouldnt hold out as well :)

I'm definatly a stealthy person, and after having numerous cars that turned heads, i dont miss it one bit :)

was just agreeing with what mitchy said that in the cold months you get sod all traction at pod as the strip gets slippy, I remember leaving pod to go for a drive to get some food and I had better traction on normal roads than I did on the strip, lol

I think the extra grip you get from the track on the hot days is a much bigger advantage than the cooler inlet temps on the cold days

I reckon a standard LCR could do the 1/4 in under 14.5 and chipped one maybe as low as 13.7

I have owned both the ctr and lcr.I did take my ctr down york drag strip and it did a 14.9 1/4 mile setting off in second gear got nothing but wheelspin in first.I had an induction kit and full magnex exhaust on mine and it was a great car sounded awsome at 6000 revs vtec. The gearstick is the best i have used in a car so easy and right next to the steering wheel.I do work for honda and the only times we have had them back is when owners have not been checking the oil on a regular basis and the engine starts to make a tapping noise which means that its bone dry.As standerd cars they are both about the same performance wise the lcr is a bit heavier than the ctr but there is 25bhp extra on the lcr.The thing i like about the lcr is that its very easy to mod and not for a lot of money have a bloody quick car.It also feals like its been built properly as on the ctr it was a bit too plastic but thats all to do with saving weight the lcr is a great car and i love it you just dont need to screw the arse out of it to enjoy it like you did in the ctr but this is part of the character of the ctr that i liked.I nearly got the new ctr but wanted 4 doors and the lcr ticked more boxes for me and i have made the right choice for sure.

i drove both back to back a few days ago. the civic is nicer inside IMO but doesnt have all the toys of the LCR. The steering felt sticky like the wheel didnt want to turn and the gear stick is in a nice position and had a sporty feel to it when changing, very solid and precise. the leon was just a smoother, easier car to drive. power delivery is totally different with the honda u drive it and it feels quick and then then very quick in v-tec but that is really revving it!! (5.5k ish??) i thought it was bad enough in my 172 at around 4.5-5k! so you basically have to be 5k and upwards to have that fast feeling! the leon is the total opposite, as u can imagine with a turbo car. all the power is low down. i really enjoyed this coming from a 172. it felt soo much faster and nicer to drive! i have made my choice even though the civic is cheaper, better interior(?) nicer gearbox, sportier etc. The leon just seems right. Drive both in the same day, that will make u decide!

:p CTR is one hell of a car. I drive my dads whenever i can - it makes the Leon feel like a big dated elephant. It is the most precise / raw driving experience you can get for £16K without going down the elise/caterham route. The only thing i would consider is if you are doing many miles the car can become very tiring. Also, fuel economy if awful you just want to nail it everywhere to hear the V-Tec scream when overtaking people. It is a wise investment if i could afford the fuel i would be driving one now. Oh Yeh - the seats are amazing too.

Yes i have - i test drove one twice before getting the TDi. I know it is a very quick and able car but if you are looking for something very focused then you really cant go wrong with a CTR. It does what it says on the tin.
