The Golf is a nice motor looked at a MKVI but felt it too expensive for what is and it's nice to change marques every now and again after 6 years of BM we have gone the other way back to a Seat FL Leon FR TDi!!

Totally off-topic (apologies!).... But looking at your sig you've had a one series - how does it compare with the FR??

Im thinking of either a 120D or 123D M-Sport early next year..

Chris

I have had three 1er's pre FL 120d, 116i and FL 118d with M-Sport suspension (Dynamic pack) they are truly fab little car's similar in some way's to the FR. The steering and handling is a little sharper the ride on an M Sport is simlar to a FL FR and more compliant than your FR. They are more refined and the 120d 177 does not feel as fast as the FR even though it is. 123d is quicker than the 120 and picks up better but 120d is no slouch.

The biggest downside of the 1er and the reason we went for the FR is boot space (although Coupe has a bigger boot) and rear legroom is tight. Access is actually better in the 3dr than 5dr. Other downside is run flat tyres they are expenisve £130-150 in 17" guise and do harm the ride and wear down quicker 10-20K depending on brand. Current new ones with 16" wheels are non RFT and those that have fitted non RFT tyres to 17" and 18" wheels say grip, ride and handling is improved.

FL effcient dynamics models are quite frugal the stop/start system takes some getting use to but 42-47 actual avg mpg is possible form 120d/123d.

For any further info/advice or pics of various models/spec try babybmw.net really freindly and helpful bunch like here :funk:

Many thanks... cheers

Interesting about the 3/5door access, I'll have to look into that as we have a 3 year old - boot space isn't an issue though.

I've been on babybmw quite a bit, its a good site.

Thanks again for the advice

Your welcome

We have an 18 month and a 6 year old but we had the 118d when we had just one 4 year old and was not a problem untill the 2nd came along!! Three door looks smarter especially with chromeline and Xenons give you funky LED rear lights if you go for the hatch.

Good choice did you get dsg with it? Get yourself on www.mk5golfgti.co.uk theres loads of us Seat boys on there anyway ;).

Nah proper manual - I looked at a DSG but it was a dog. it had 40k on the clock, Every corner was scuffed, the front splitter was hanging off the door looked like it had been opened on to something there was a dent on the rear quarter panel and it had 3 "one - sport" tyres - never even heard of them - and one Bridgestone.

The one ive bought has £2000 worth of options on it only 12k on the clock its a year newer and its costing me the same as the the one with DSG and its absolutely minted.

5 door as well where as the other ones i had looked at were three doors. The little monster is only two so 5 door is better for putting him in and out the car seat.

Did look at a very very nice black 3 door but it didnt have any options at all and was older and £2500 more expensive.

Will get myself on to the mk5gti forum! See you boys there!!
