Hello,
Have a Leon FR ST 2016, has normal halogen bulbs in the fogs but everything else is LED.
Any good recemmendations for straight plug in LED fogs?
Thanks.

Pretty sure there are several threads on just that subject, possibly even a guide on it?
Yes, this is discussed quite often on other VAG forums too.

For me, changing to white fog light bulbs would depend on whether form or function was more important to me.

On various forums I visit, those who want to change the yellowish halogen fog light bulbs for white LED‘s seem to do it primarily for aesthetics, so the light output from the fogs match the colour of their (LED) headlamps. However, it always used to be the case that the warmer yellowish light from halogen fog light bulbs is better at penetrating fog than a ‘cold’ bright white or bluish white light. Car fog light technology may have moved on though, and white LED fog lights may be just as good (or better) as the yellowish halogen fog light output at improving visibility in foggy conditions nowadays. If so, then car manufacturers have probably stuck with halogen fog lights as they’re likely to be cheaper. I see you can actually buy yellow LED fog light bulbs too!

So @damonhughes1; if your primary concern is good visibility in foggy conditions, then it might be better sticking with your existing halogen fog light bulbs. However, if you’re more concerned with aesthetics and want colour matched headlights and front fog lights, then changing your fog light bulbs to white LED is probably the way to go.

I’ve kept the halogen bulbs in the fog lights on my VW; I rarely use my fog lights (on my last car, I used them maybe a couple of times in 4-5 years), so I’m happy to live with them not matching the colour of my LED headlamp light output.

The facelift models all have LED fog/turning lights now, which are the same colour temperature as the headlights; they seem pretty okay in real fog, compared to my Xtrail halogen ones.

The warmer (yellower) the LED then the less efficient it is, so you'd get much less light out of a yellow LED. In theory the longer the light wavelength then the farther it will penetrate through atmospheric conditions, hence why sunsets are all yellow, orange and reds, but in the short range of fog lights then being close to the ground is the main criteria.
