According to ETKA (the official parts catalogue), version A was dropped on 01 April 2016, and superceded by version C. So the C version is a direct substitution.

Hope this helps

That's a very useful feature of ETKA!
I use partslink24.com as a monthly paying subscriber, they cover not only VAG but almost all manufacturers, and keep the content always updated, I have no
problem on that front and I'm happy with their services. But they don't include this specific dropped & replaced information unfortunately. They just list both parts, along with their starting & ending dates too, but the
problem is that there's no way of knowing if the new part substitutes the old one or if the new one is some kind of an engineering or design change which is valid for only cars built after that date and the old part will be kept in circulation too.
I'm thinking about writing an email to them and asking about if they would consider adding this important feature.
