Took the olds out last weekend on a long motorway trip and averaged 45mpg. So i thing that's excellent mpg return for a petrol engine.

That's brill, what kind of speed.

My Tdi has today just done 160miles at normal outside lane motorway speed, 42mpg, on the way down on Fri. night - 38mpg. . .

Hi G.P,

just cruised along, doing between 65 - 70. didn't put my foot down too much as my mum is one of those who doesn't like it when you do a bit of 'spirited' driving lol

I meant no cruise control when trying not to brake in traffic/watching for brake lights. Youll defo end up braking/big crash. I say dont brake because its much better to "roll" as it uses no fuel on decceleration and average mpg goes way up
Ps cruise control is the best! Also when being stingy 60mph is the magic number. Over this, wind resistance is a massive factor. Last bit- on average every 1mph either way accounts for about 0.5mpg over a distance! Tada

cheers jay,

one last thing, does the grade of fuel also make a difference?

are you running on normal unleaded, or are you using Shell V-Power/BP Ultimate/Tesco Momentum 99RON?

I have an 09 1.4 TSI and ive owned it from brand new! just over 2 years now and still feels like brand new not one problem at all!!! i see your all talking about mpg, your figures seem right, however i have had this reading 60s on the motorway sitting at about 55mph or so. I even took pictures on my old phone to prove!!! Ive never even got round to remapping it yet and probably never will ! best of luck and enjoy!

AND YES!!! try using BP or Sainsbury's ultimate unleaded...makes a hell of a difference!!!!!! the car feels a good bit smoother and a tad more responsive. give it a go!

Amazing cars mate :p I would say that I have the 1.4 TSI. They're very nippy for the engine size, got mine running at 165.

Hi there, I've also got the 1.4tsi engine. I've been looking at getting a bit more power out of it. Was wondering what you had done to yours to get 165bhp?

Cheers

Easy lanny1 i happen to kno its remapped. Personally 165 is abit of a push from standard 125 for me. I mite be slightly "softer" on the poor little engine. But it is what it is fair play to the man he sed hes had no problems so far thinking of a bluefin remap myself. Also, these engines are often rated at higher performance for some reason......

Hi guys sorry I've not been very active. I've had it remapped by revo and also added a forge induction kit onto it. Feels even more responsive with the new intake. Looking at doing the exhaust next.

Lol!! Bad news iv had a dip in mpg recently. Maybe due to cold weather. Topped up with oil, coolant - no improvement. tyre pressure done yesterday slight improvement on it. Also maybe my car mite be "bedded in" done about 7000 miles now. Im gonna try a higher octane fuel when im next dry an see what happens, i can be quite consistant when mpging!! (New word!)

Does anybody feel worried when your cars MFD tells you to gear up to fifth when doing 30, even uphill?

Oh no! Haha I think you've just discovered your turbo :p
That's a pretty cool word might have to start using that! lol. I've started using the higher octane stuff now gonna give it a try over a few fills and see what differences I notice.
