Hi all,

am new to all this. i am looking at buying a leon next year feburary time. i have desided that i want to have a diesel as i do alot of traveling and i have desided that i want a 150bhp one. since i will be only 22 on purchase the insurance is about the same (£1300) but i am not sure what the main difference between a FR and the Cupra is. both the same bhp obiously different spec but i can not find anywhere that tells me what the difference is. obiously you cannot but these brand new any more so i will be looking at one about 3years old max come next year. i have loked at prices and in some cases there is 5000 in difference between an FR and cupra with the same amount of milage and same age. is the cupra worth the extra money? or is the FR just as good??

could any one shed some light on this for me.

thank you

Newcastle...ish
Main difference is different design alloys, CD player and titanium mirrors

FR is the new name for cupra, a search will bring up more

I posted about this a few days ago and the general opinion in that they were all Cupra's, until SEAT decided to call them FRs.

So, Cupar is an older acr than an FR. FR seem to have a better spec, being newer, and cost a wee bit more.

FR's have different alloys (both 17", just different design)

FR's have no CD changer as standard (Cupra's do)

FR's have silver mirrors (Cupra's are body coloured)

Now to confuse matters even further, you can also get an FR+

This is the same spec as the FR, but it has the Cupra R (petrol version) front bumper & side skirts. It also has the Cupra R alloy wheels (although they are only 17", the cupra R wheels are 18").

I think that sums it up !!

I'm 24 & the insurance wanted over 3 grand for my insurance - I must move house :(

I was quoted £339.19 fully comp protected for an FR!!!! You need to move town, county or country by the sounds of it!!!!

Cupra = FR = FR+, its the same car just working it way from old to new, which usually means a face lift, changes in spec, etc.

Try SEAT.co.uk or Autotrader.

If you need any pics of the FR+ drop me a line - I have a few kicking about

Its got 17inch cupra alloys, the r front bumper/splitter, single slot CD player and climate control etc. etc.

I think its minor differences TBH, they seem to be selling them on the forecourt for a fair bit, my local has an ex demo for sale @ £13999 with 5k on clock !

I havent advertised mine properly yet mind you

I see 2 people have mentioned the FR+ has the front Cupra R bumper and skirts but didnt mention the rear bumper?
I have the FR+ and I thought the front, rear and skirts were all from the Cupra-R.

The interior of the FR is also different to the Cupra, though there is no mention of FR inside the car at all, not sure if the Cupra models had Cupra logos on the seats.

Couple of pics of my FR+...
