Leon Bluetooth synching

Does the Leon Bluetooth kit need to be mated to the phone memory, or can it read SIM cards as well? Is there any benefit to doing it either way round?

Also, if you have multiple numbers saved for one person, eg. Dave's home number and mobile number, can it distinguish between them, or will it only call the default one?

ie if Dave's mobile is the default, dialling will dial that, and if he calls me, it'll appear only as Dave if he calls by mobile? If he calls on his landline, will the number just come up as a random number or can it still tell?

Hope that makes sense. Just preparing my phones for the car's imminent arrival and wanted to know the best way to set it up. :)

Hope I'm not stating the obvious here, but have you checked that your phone wil actually sync the phonebook with the car. I knew mine (Nokia N95) wouldn't when I bought the car, but it works well enough after I'd taught it my phonebook using the voice commands. I also knew I'd be keeping the phone for only a month or two and I'd be hanging onto the car for several years.

Yep, I am very aware of that - I too own an N95 as a personal phone and have emailed Nokia, Symbian and Seat in the hope of an update or way around it, but have resigned myself to the fact that it won't fully work with it. To be fair I only really use my personal phone in the car with a couple of numbers (girlfriend, home, brother etc) so I'm going to install them as voice activated ones when using that phone.

My work phone I have dug out my old Nokia 6230 to replace my E65, which will fully work. Good old phone, and it's this one that I will use primarily in the car so I wanted it to work properly.

Would still like to know about the multiple numbers per contact thing though if anyone knows?

Also, if I swap phones regularly, it's not going to take ages to synch every time I change over is it?

Multiple contacts do not work particularly well -pretty much the only let down on the whole system really. For me (dunno if it's my phone or the system), it seems to randomly choose which number it likes out of multiple numbers, rather than choosing what my phone suggests is the default. It also occasionally puts the other contacts right at the start of the list under "---" - so in my case I have two "---"s at the top of my phone book corresponding to landlines of people elsewhere in it, even though there are 5 or 6 people that have a landline stored in my phone aswell as a mobile...

So in summary, multiple contacts aren't handled amazingly. On the plus side, it doesn't take long to sync the phone book - I just wish I knew of a way to force a resync as some of my numbers have disappeared from the car's PB despite still being in mine.

Hey, oh damn i thought i was the only one with N95 problem.. so the N95 just wont sync the phonebook ? i thought i need a software upgrade on the phone or something...

My work phone (iPhone from Apple) does sync nicely.. i want the n95 do to the same..

And btw,, iphone sycned first time it took like a minute(365 or so numbers) i can switch between iphone and N95 with no problem or wait time..

Please make a post or pm me if theres someway to make n95 sync with the car!!

i think you can sync 5 phones. if there are more than one of them within bluetooth 'range' it will sync with the one it previously sync'd with.

My phone Sony K510i syncs straight away but the funny thing is its not on the list of compatible phones! Manual says that you say ‘zero’ but I tried this and the reply I got was ‘zero zero’ so I tried saying ‘o’ and worked great, seems to understand better if you say it in groups like ‘0.1.7.0.8’.

Multiple numbers for the same person are listed separately on the MFD.

Maybe it's phone specific - on mine (Sony W880i) the MFD adds a character to the end of the name when I'm scrolling through the list, depending on where that number was stored in the phone memory.

Example:

Becca M
Becca W

These are both stored order "Becca" on my phone, for either calling the missus on her mobile or at work. When the car scrolls my phone book, I can distinguish between them with the M/W suffix. It does this for every number, even the ones that have a home/mobile/work/other/fax number stored.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know if the Sony Erricson W890i works?? I'm looking at getting either a W880i or the W890i so just trying to see what's what...

Cheers

W890i is effectively a W880i in a different shell, so should function exactly as my W880 does. You'll be fine - go with the newer model.

I think youll find it will only download information from your Sim card and not the phone memory. When I first connected by Razor2 V8 not all my contacts came up on the MFD, it was then that I realised the missing contacts were stored in the phone memory and not on the Sim card. When I copied them to the Sim they appeared on the MFD the next time the phone was paired up.

With regards to multiple phone numbers for a single contact, as has already been said, the MFD displays them as separate entries. However, as each entry has the same name its not possible to determine which number is associated with which untill you select it.

I have great problems getting the voice command system to understand the 'store' command, it keeps replying 'star 4' for some reason. Once programmed however it works well. Has anyone else had this problem?

There have been several threads on here discussing similar issues with the voice control system but basically as BigNeil says, either "Save" or "Store Name" will work, rather than just "Store" as instructed by the manual.

I don't understand. My phone's SIM cannot store more than one number per contact, if you try and add a number to a contact it automatically shifts the lot to the phone memory. I think it depends on the phone, as on the compatibility list it lists 'download phone memory' and 'download SIM memory'. My phone lists both so I'm hoping it will work, will have to see how it copes with it.
