My 05 FR TDi was serviced at 60k and on the report it said that the front pads were 70% worn.

The Car is currently on 69K and will be having it's next service in a couple of weeks. The O/S Pads look very worn to me with only 2-3mm of meat left on them. Braking is occasionally noisier, but definiantly not metal on metal grinding at this moment

I have done a search on here and cannot find a definitve answer as to whether the Pads on the Leon have wear indicators. If the Pads have indicators, i'll probably leave the service until after my holiday and the car has actually reached 70K

Anyone shine some light on the subject ?

My 2001 Leon Cupra has wear indicators, i know this as the light came on a couple of months back and i changed them. So i would have thought the entire range would have them fitted.

Thanks for the quick replies guys

I'll leave it another couple of weeks until i hit 70k then

depends on the pads you have fitted. When I changed from brembo pads to ebc reds on my lcr only the drivers side front has a sensor and the ebc reds have no such sensor. so cable tidied the wire away until fitting sensor equipped pads again. My fiat coupe was the same. Only one sensor on one pad ad driver front. anybody know if ferrodos for lcr have sensor?

My 54 plate FR TDI doesn't have sensors, just to confuse matters futher!!

Are the sensors always on the near side but it's the off side that wears quicker? Can you see through the wheel or have a feel to see if they're there?

Anyways, in my book 70% worn means 30% to the good, glass is always half full and all that..............

They are stock Pads from new........

Most of my driving is motorways so they have lasted a good length of time

I might pop the wheel's off at the weekend to have a better look at them, and check the wear on the inside pads. I can then check to see if i can find the sensor wiring.

Thanks again

Steve

My 01 LC has a sensor on front nearside only. My replacement pads (Delphi Lockheed) came with sensor plugs on both sides so I just cut the lead off of the offside set.

Check your disc thickness too as mine were on minimum with 2-3mm left on the pads and they became noticeably noisy under heavy braking.

if you tie clip up the sensor dowsnt the dash light come on??

No you leave the car to pad connector plugs alone and cut the cable before it goes into the pad. Strip the wire and join the two cores together. Tape up and secure it to where it's located. Makes a full circuit and car thinks all is well :), well that's the theory I have yet to do this with my DS2500 replacements ;). If you leave the plugs intact you can always go back to pads with sensors in the future also.

EBC Reds I have on my LC def have a sensor wire on one side only.. couldn't tell you which side it is as I didn't fit them myself.
I'd assume that the TDi cars have the same single sided sensor too.

Spot on!

Just wanted to check that if I buy replacement pads for the rear does only one set need to have a sensor and the other without? rite?

Cheers

My Leon '54' FR has the wear indicator, its on the passenger side though. I changed them myself and found that the front right pads had worn a good bit more than the front left pads so the indicator hadn't shown that they were worn, it was only as i was washing my car i noticed they were needing changed.

Tend to find inside pads get most of the wear on them, so just bear in mind when you look at the outside pads and they look okay, you really need to get the wheel off to check. Also you might find the dash indicator doesn't come on at all, had that on my last pads for LCR, pads were worn right down as well.
