Hi all, i've decided its about time i put a build thread togeter. just done my drift works build which didnt take too long but this one is going to take some time as i'm 2 years into the project!!

Anyway here goes... i may as well start by bringing you all up to date with a brief history of my cars, all of which were inspired by moy love of vw's and at the time my education at the time (college & uni) in motorsport engineering ;)

My first car was a Vauxhall nova (i make no excuses for this) it started life out as a tatty 1.3 sr and ended up as a 1.6 running a fully built engine on webber 40's, the chassis was seam welded, full polly'd suspension etc and rear disc conversion to list a few off a long list of mods... sadly it never say paint lol.

(excuse pic quality)

Then followed one of my faveriots to date... My mk1 Golf cl. this started out life as a rather tidy 1.1. with the offer of a free 1.3 litre lump this changed rather shortly after. various evolutions of this car came about but she ended up as a built 1.6 on a set of BMW e30 bbs rims... as with the nova fully polly'd etc but with all the usual mk1 chrome refinements.
unfortunately i dont have a digital pic of the car in its full glory but here's a mid point picy

Myprideandjoy.jpg

i shall endevor to find and scan in a good one later in the thread

Next followed a pair of mk2 Gti's. A 1.8 8v and a 1.8 16v. the 16v was an absolute steal and i couldn't resist it. it did however need 4 calipers, solid brake pipes all round a clutch, a gearbox and the top end rebuilding! i set about this with great enthusiasm and built my first and last fully standard car. was in stunning condition!!!

DSC00242.jpg

The 1.8 8v was less of a steal with some of the work already done but wasn't as fast as i'd have liked. that was soon sorted with a yet again built lump (2.0 8v from a mk3 gti) this was awesome and gave some serious machinery a run for its money but again i wanted more and fitted a 2.0 16v lump. unfortunately my current motor isn't currently as fast as the insane motor but it is a work in progress.

2.0 8v golf on dished rims mmmmmm :bleh:

2.016v rebuilt ready to swap.

once i had settled into my new job and house it was time for a new motor (as the misses hated "that old thing" aka the golf) having had an offer to buy the Golf i couldnt say no to i set out to buy a mk4 Gti. after a couple of weeks trying to find a low mile 180bhp model i stumbled across a leon cupra 180 at a Vauxhall dealer with only 24k on the clock
as i was now working for Vauxhall i picked her up at a silly cheap price too!

and so project 300 began with the aim of building a sensible, practicle 300bhp+ car... a little against the grain for me tbh.

DSC00686-1.jpg

modding began with a set of 18" OZ Ultra Leggra's, an indution kit, and as this was my first turbo a dump valve (the first of many)

n789402213_660989_1523.jpg

now the turbosmart atmospheric dump valve didnt really cause me any noticable problems to speak of but the induction kit was killing mass air meters. after a few race weekends working for Racingline in the Volkswagon Cup i realised the errors of my ways and what worked best on the 1.8t's and so the valve/induction kit went in tehe parts bin (Ebay) and a Forge 007 was fitted and a named filter found its way onto the end of some custom induction hard piping :)

shortly after this came a super sprint stainless system, some coilys and REVO stage 1 software.

The Revo software transformed the car and delivered everything prommised! the coilys improved the handeling and the exhaust... well it looked nice but didn't produce the note i really wanted so it met the fait of many trial and error parts before it and ended up on the bay funding a custom Powerflow turbo back system which in the interest of noise is basically a pipe from the turbo all the way up to a tiny back box... its loud... very loud and delivers a nice popping on over run mmmmmmm:cartman:

Next up came some play with paint and engine colour coding... the origional idea was for a candy red flip on the cover and some of the plastics... it kinda came out a pinky purple so painting stopped there for the time being for a rethink... the colour was different and i liked it... it was just the "its pink" comments that got a bit annoying!

A few arty shots...

its not pink... lol

Anyways... GTi international 2009 was looming ever closer so with this in mind the aar recieved no more than a clean over the next few weeks!

i was quite happy with the car at the time untill this happened...

No i know it was second place (lmao...) but it meant lots of room for improvement!!!

the very next day a from mount intercooler, 4 bar fuel pressure regulator and lots of other gubbins was ordered!!! project 300 was about to enter its next evolution.
Cam covers and plastic engine trim came out to become red NOT PINK!!! and a new BOV whilst i waited... oh and N249 Bypass

DSC00890.jpg

after what seemed a lifetime for my goodies to appear i bookeed a few days off work and cracked on with the job at hand!
DSC00914.jpg

A new fuel pressure regulator, a new ITG filter, Awesome GTI TIP pipe, Forge silicone boost and coolant pipework, and a set of THS Performance engine mounts later the job was comming along a treat!

whilst waiting for the front mount to turn up i decided to invest in some stopping power... as everyone was doing Porsche brakes at the time and i was now skint i though i'd go down a different route. after a few mins scouring fleabay i found these beastys :wtf:

Golf R32 calipers
DSC00859.jpg

Perhaps a little contraversial i dont know?? i'm not sure anyone has been down this route with a leon either??

With this in mind i set about fitting them and turns out they are better than standard!!! RESULT!! although unsprung weight could be better here they are a good budget improvement untill my pocket is once again full enough to invest in some 4-6pots. on the positive i have 2 sets of discs and 2 sets of pads so they'll last me :)

Next up -- you guessed it... the front mount :) this was also supplied by THS Performance and although not the biggest cooler in the world it has made a massive difference to the induction temps :D (no logs sorry)

its Naked!!!
DSC01097.jpg

home made coupling pipes whilst waiting for some Samco items.
DSC01118-1.jpg

Time for REVO stage 2 Software :cartman: -- The result... much better throttle response, improved acceleration, everything sounded better and felt much tighter!

Better yet those THS mounts (full set) really help lay the power down and eliminate wheel hop!! (one of my top buys)

With the car starting to come along nicely Carl @ Revo asked if i would like to show my car on their stand at ED28 2009... what couould i say  with this in mind and something a bit special up my sleeve i set about transforming The Little Leon for the show!!!

oooo whats that???

Trial fitting
DSC01394.jpg

Its shiny and excites!
DSC01403.jpg

For those of you still wondering, after a sit down with Nick & Carl @ Revo it was decided that hard wiring would be perferfectly porrible so i set about my dash with a little courage, a little Carbon courtesy of a local F1 team, an sps switch and an air fuel ratio gauge... the result imho was something a bit different for my dash :funk:

the wheels were painted up in VW black magic (shiny metalic black) to match the newly re-painted dash! the result :-o

From the monent the wheels touched the ground again it was off to Revo technic for stickers for the show

DSC01387.jpg

A few other mods snuck in over night including de-wipered rear end (glass blank) cupra R splitter etc etc.

So at this point the car has been reasonably modified (a little more than whts on here so far but no picys yet) and should be pushing between 225-235 bhp (no actual figures as there is a long way to go still... but it is faster than a standard LCR so thats a reasonable guide) next up, turbo (awaiting parts), awaiting some carbon shell bucket seats, got a set of 4 point LUKE harness's already in there, 1/2 cage, steering wheel and maybe some pollys for now. who knows what else 2010 will bring.
