So im looking to sell my TDI MK4 Golf and get something like a Leon. I brought a mk3 2001 Ibiza 1.8r Cupra but didnt get on with it.

It self a little small and very crashy etc. Now i loved the engine and always said id want that engine in my Golf etc.

So ive decided that id probably get bored with a Golf 1.8t so Leon is another choice.

Im torn between a normal Cupra or a Cupra R. Now the normal Cupras that have the semi Cupra r kit on them look nice and are alot cheaper with less miliage (60k miles for 3.5k).

After awhile they will get remapped (as is my diesel) so i know the Cupra will achieve around 220 and the cupra r around 260. I dont mind spending the extra money if it will be better to go for the Cupra R. Plus Cupra R has brembo's etc.

Not too bothered about Cupra R seats as ive got some black recaro leathers from my golf which would prob go into the leon.

Fuel isnt really a problem, but i would like to save some money here and there if you know what i mean.

Just not really sure which to go for.

Hi
Well the R has alot of differences but it all depends on what you're budget is! 3k starting for a 210 cupra R but iv bought a few "normal" cupras now and they start at £795 for a half decent one! Lots of potential to do you're own thing to it too with the 2k you've saved. Cupra r does look nice though but it's only bumpers! Fit a set! And the 18s too of course. Lots of pros and cons for both! Stage one map will get you within 3bhp of a standard R for £250 to £300! And if you're fitting you're seats too.....
Up to you mate. And good decision getting out o the golf4 blob!

Thats a good point. The bog standard cupras are like 2000 or cheaper. I just want to get out of the MK4 Golf scene etc. Dont get me wrong i go to all the shows each year - but i dont like all the sheeps and big egos of the forums etc you know? Nice to see your local too!

Saying that, MK1 TT's arnt too expensive aswell - but with the quattro etc the fuel really is gone. My friend just brought an Audi s3 - but theyre like 6k for what a Leon has for nearly half the price. Obviously without 4x4 lesser interior etc but still....

Guy on here had a remapped cupra like mine ( seatcupramad) sold it and bought an s3. Now he has just gone out and bought another seat! They sometimes leave but mainly come back! Cupra is faster and handles betters than mr blobby too!
Where are you at?
Ak

I did like my mk3 Ibiza, but it was yellow and had pretty bad colour fade and some bad knocking noises when on full lock etc - had some Koni coilovers and was really uncomfortable. So loved the engine - but it was just the ibiza shape i think. Leon seems the okay shape - its just the interior isnt great in my opinion. Not really sure what to do tbh. The Ibiza was also pretty good on fuel - not sure how the leons are with the 6sp? (The ibiza also had a AMD map with breathing mods so was around 190bhp)

Well my cupra is LPG mate so really good but on a run I was getting well into the thirties but around town etc wasn't too bad either! Know about paint fade too!
How close are you too me then?
Ak

How much was the LPG conversion? Do you get the same performance from it etc? What sort of miliage do you get from it? Im near Fareham! So mot too far from Salisbury!

I'm actually at larkhill near amesbury mate 2 secs from Stonehenge!so down the a303!
LPG cost me £800 including 2 year warranty and free service. When LPG is half the price and you actually drive the car you get it back easy. I spend less in my cupra than I do in my tdi one!

i've probably have every variant of mk4 golf platform , mk4 golf tdi 90 and leon tdi 90 also mk4 gold gt tdi 110 (mapped to 145 bhp) , 4 leon cupras , 2 audi s3's mk1 and finally a lcr 210 but it feels quicker than that.

i'll level with you mate after owning 4 lc's you will regret buying one if you had the option to get a lcr don't get me wrong lc's are great i had 4 and spent stupid money on them but the lcr is much styling wise and power you an get a really good 1 for around 3500 but personally i would buy a bog standard one

It's true! It all depends what you want. Spend money on an lc and get it up to lcr speed and styling . I was only concerned you were gonna ditch the R interior and waste money. Though you could sell it and get money back ..cough cough splutter!
Cupramad does know what he's on about and as he said he's had all the variants. I have too but sold them on! Not lived with them!
Ak

the bottom line is you ll spend £££ chasing lcr figures from a cupra when the ideal thing to do is start from lcr basis , but as said it what you want really i can only share my experiences

What he's saying is he should have spent money buying an lcr in the first place mate instead of spending £££££££££ on a lc! took him about 7 attempts to get it right!

Yeah, reading the comments i think that LCR probably would be the better choice. Although from looking - the Skoda octavia 2003 VRS are very cheap. And 400 cheaper on insurance than a leon...... (ill get my coat................)

Not sure, my other half picked up a VRS with all extras fsh etc for 1800. Now someone i work with has a LCR and offered me a drive so hopefully i might get a better choice on what i want. I just want something comfortable and quick!

Yeah 180 6sp. But id imagine heavier as they got boot etc! Would of thought stage one would see 220bhp.

Ah i see. Other options i looked at are Audi a4 estate's 180tdi quattro - but theyre again very expensive for what they are IMO. Leons just seem pretty good value - what sort of money should i be looking to spend on a LCR?
