Hi,

I'm thinking to go from my Ibiza Cupra Mk5 to a Leon Cupra R 2.0 TSI engine and wanted to ask you Leon users about opinions about the engine and reliability on this car please ?
Also will I see much difference in running costs compared to the 1.4 TSI ?
Didn't have much luck with my Ibiza Cupra so I thought that I need a change
I'm interested to get a Leon as this forum compared to the Ibiza one doesn't have much threads re issues of engine and such and I always had a soft spot for a Leon

sounds about right i only have the cupra and i get 30mpg driving like a granny at 60 on the motorway.

But when you boot it i see as low as 5.9 mpg, just try not to keep booting it, but it is addictive.
 
I do like 14km everyday to work and back home so hopefully won't see much of difference in fuel as I don't drive that fast except for weekends
What issue is there with the rubber at the front please ?

the power especially in the wet it spins in 1st 2nd and sometimes third depending on your right foot.

great cars tho
 
Well I went from an mk 5 fr tsi to a 2.0 tsi fr Leon and never looked back. I'm guessing your talking about the misfiring issue as I had it time after time in the Ibiza and got fed up. The Leon hasn't skipped a beat. Mpg depends on driving style but is worse. I get similar miles to a tank as I did in my Ibiza as I do in my Leon but the Leon tank costs about £10er more to fill up

Anymore questions ..... Do it !
 
On average around town I get 27 -32 mpg. I drive to work when no one is about though so I can keep it in fifth most of the way because it's a straight road to work. Lol



I've only had my Leon for just over a week and it's by far the best car I've owned, all is done is pit a bit extra aside for fuel. The power is addictive though. I can't help putting the foot down.
 
I used to get around 200 miles to a full tank in the Ibiza Cupra 1.4tsi I had, that same £50 of fuel in my Leon Cupra can get me around 250 miles ish with a bit of mixed driving.

The 2.0TFSI/TSI engine is well proven, a very reliable engine for the majority, touch wood I've never had an issue other then a faulty diverter valve which can happen on any Golf ED30, Cupra or S3.

My Ibiza Cupra I had drank all of it's oil in 16k miles and just didn't feel a solid car like the Leon does. I'm more then happy with 240bhp so god knows what 265bhp is like in the Cupra R!

From what I've read I can see that it would be a great switch from an Ibiza to Leon
If I get the LCR it will be new from Seat showroom as they have the last one in red and they will take my Ibiza Cupra. Still need to check the money difference and insurance but prolly won't insure it as full but just third party.
 
Realistically mate, im getting consistent tanks of about 320miles per £75 of super unleaded (Brimmed tank)

Motorway at 60-65 will get you 30mpg (if lucky)

Most of the time your looking at 19-22mpg

Third party?! You're choice mate but most insurers charge nearly the same for third party as they do fully comp, I wouldn't pay nearly £20k for a new car for it just to be third party.

I'm not from the UK though
The thing is that I'm 23 and prolly they won't even insure me full on a 265bhp car or the price would be sky high
For example on my Ibiza Cupra I pay round 1,400 euros while 3rd party would be 600-800 euros depends on the company
Almost half the price for third party insurance

The 2.0T is available in various guises and has been tried and proven. There are some usual issues which can be found in the FAQ section and various stickies. Some engines have gone bang or have failed for other reasons too including fuel pump failures resulting in petrol getting in to the engine oil, head gaskets blowing and other less usual problems like piston and crank issues - they are all documented on various forums.

The BWJ engine in the 2007-2009 Cupra was replaced by the CDL engine as used in the 2009-S3 as mentioned above, and this engine is shared with the 2009-Leon Cupra too. There are few differences between the engines, one of the most significant differences being a different inlet camshaft on the CDL engine. The CDL engine uses the same K04 turbo as the older BWJ engine, and what separates the Cupra R from the Cupra (2007-2009 and 2009 onward models) is the slightly larger intercooler at the front - sadly that intercooler is not the same as the one on the original S3 as it uses the same small plastic end tanks as the Cupra core. Other mechanical differences between the Cupra and Cupra R are minor changes in suspension to cope with the 19's and a slightly different gearbox - the Cupra R uses the same ratios as the 2007-2009 Cupra and the 2009- Cupra is geared slightly differently.

The BWJ engine in my experience is "faster" than the CDL engine and returns more mpg's on a long run than the CDL engine. Also, the CDL engine seems to enjoy eating spark plugs more than the BWJ although both use chocolate coil packs. Its probably too early to talk about reliability of the CDL engine although a user on here had his CDL engine let go only recently, and several BWJ's have expired through reasons noted above.

All in, there is nothing as significant issue/problem wise as there seems to be with the 1.4TSi in the Ibiza FR/Cupra/Bocenagra, and it WILL use more fuel and it WILL use less oil ;)
 
id be surprised if any insurance company would let you insure a brand new 20K+ car third party to be honest
 
Well they did offer me to insure my current car aka ibiza cupra to insure if 3rd party and I bought in the range of 20K euros which is same range of Leon so don't think that it will be a problem to be honest
Guess imma have to make a couple of calls to check the prices of different insurance companies

You must be mad to insure a car of that value third party. How much is it to insure a Cupra by comparison? Its the same car without the frills - spend less on the car and more on the insurance?
 
3rd party for a car that value is stupid! The price isn't 'that' different anyway.

F.ex - My MG ZR 105 is covered 3rd party and costs me £68/month.

My Leon FR TFSI (which I pick up on Friday) is costing me £80/month fully comprehensive.

For the sake of £12 a month to be fully covered, with a courtesy car, windscreen cover & legal expenses, it's a no brainer.

Edit - That's for a 28 yr old male with 3 points.
