Stiffing up the front

To minimize the engine movement during WOT I've acquired following items.
  • Vibratechnics engine dogbone subframe mount
  • Vibratechnics engine mount front bushing
I want to minimize the movement of the engine as it stresses joints and other connecting engine components.

Decided to stiffen up the bushes in the front as I'm going to be removing the subframe to fit the dogbone mount anyway.
Will match the rear bushes later on in phase 2 of this project (completion of the AWD conversion) .

  • Superpro front camber adjustable ball joints
  • Superpro Anti-lift kit
  • Superpro front wishbone front bushes

Will be on of the nicest Leon's about this when finished.

Just out of interest, what do you do work wise?

Thank you :).

I'm in the office all day, working with automation. No former working experience with cars, just a interest that has grown.

Just a peak

So my engine mechanic came buy today to have a look at my build and got carried away.
I snapped a short video to prove it's really alive for you fellows on here. Camera is ****, HD video to come.

Virgin drive

I guess a dream of mine is really becoming reality as I had my first drive this weekend. It all started 10 months ago when I "impulse" purchased an 2.5 TFSI cylinder head from Ebay.
Some might have thought I was a dreamer when I first posted this thread, video should be proving I'm not...

There's still some work left to do before I can go for my mapping.
  • Figure out some coding (incompatibility) issues with the ABS/ESP, power steering, headlights and other minor bits
  • Starter motor is still acting strange but I have some ideas of how to resolve it
  • Rebuild and fit my interiour, want to make it lighter but not destroy the looks. I'll share more about this in a later post
  • Build a new front crash bar
  • Wheel alignment

Fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong at this stage with my engine, changing oil next week to check for metal debris and confirming all is working well.
The outcome will determine if I'm ready for the mapping task.

the end is closing in fast. Cant wait until you get onto the piecing back together of the small parts. Will be interesting to see what personal touches you add

Status update

Believe it or not, the R25 is now ready for mapping =) .

I've been waiting for my mechanic to fit the new front suspension bushings and angle drive bracket. Yesterday we finally got together and worked late into the night.
The angle drive bracket had to be modified as my gearbox is an 02Q and thus fitting points not matching the back of the engine. We finished it all of by rebuilding the crash bar to fit together with the new IC.

New oil was dropped in after careful inspection of the old oil filter too determine if the engine had any unexpected wear.

Meanwhile I've been refitting some of the interior and trouble shooting error codes. I did manage to identify the root cause of my early starter problems, an faulty relay.

Wheel alignment

Had a drive over to the wheel alignment shop today, what a joy! The sound of the 5 pot is really something, it put a large smile on my lips!

ECU will be handed over to a tuner tomorrow for a basemap. And next week I'll drive over to get the car custom mapped.

Ram air scoop

Today one of the final engine cosmetics showed up. I'm a sucker for carbon fiber so an ram air scoop from HF series had to go in and match up with the remaining engine carbon bits.

Producer promotes this as an air flow optimization, if so I think the improvements are slim.
I'm running an open air filter anyways ...
