Need some suggestions.

Have a bit of cash and am thinking of either modding my current car ( an 04 leon cupra tdi - already remapped) to handle much better for around a grand as I want a car I can have fun in as well as soak up the 25k miles I do a year. Then keep the rest of the cash and use it for doing up my house.

The other option I am thinking about is using the spare cash I have to buy a bmw 330d as this is a diesel(good for economy and milage I do) but rear wheel drive and has by all accounts a great engine ,so much more of a drivers car. (would love the 330cd but a bit too costly at present)

The final option and the most extravagant and likely too costly, is trade the cupra in for a 110 older passat (for daily commute) and also buy an old elise or vx220 as the back road burner.:)

What are folks thoughts, mod the cupra, buy a beemer or have an old diesel and a roadster??

All vastly different cars in their own ways :)

VX is meant to be a cracking car and suits track day type fun.

BMW is a great drivers car but does carry some badge snobbery and can be pricey to service/parts

Leons great I love mine but would you compromise it by changing the suspension if you got too harsh

End of day it depends what you want either out and out track day fun in which case VX - you might end up feeling the same about the BMW in the end though - whats the fun value in it over the Leon out of interest ?

Id go for the last option mate... i drive a ibiza tdi 110 sport & its bloody awsome & keeps up with alot of hot hatches & also great for economy...
im also considering the elise, what a car great fun.....

looking into the last option as I wont loose money trading in the leon and over time it is the most economical idea to keep it for a long time. I might save a bit longer and try to get a vx220 2.2 (not turbo as insurance and price) at least that way if i really need cash I can sell it again and not loose too much.

Think I should mod the leon in the meantime or save my cash?

Fun value in the BMW is that it is remap the thing to get 250bhp out of the 6 and it is rear wheel drive. Agree with you on the expensive running costs though

In relation to making the suspension harsh, do you not think that the leon needs better suspension and better handling to make it some fun?

To be honest on the roads up here its fine but I havent pushed it to explore its boundaries.

I came from a skyline that had TEIN suspension/coilovers which was at the other extreme [B)]

I dont know much about Leon upgrades yet but would definately suggest if your re-mapped its worth thinking about - along with brakes :)

BMW does have good potential for re-mapping but would you not end up having to fork out for suspension for it as well (never drive one so dont know what the set up is like)

Down to what puts a smile on your face :D

I don't see the bmw as an option really as cost and the feeling that I am not really ready for a bmw yet(if you know what I mean).

Trying to work out now if I should keep the cupra and save for vx220 or trade in cupra and buy vx 220 and old diesel?

ssssstew, gonna tell me what you think.

I guess I am torn between modding the cupra and sticking with it for a few years yet or burning my cash on running and buying another car and leaving me a bit streched but very happy on the weekends!

Editing your spelling
my head says option one, because your investing some money in the house which is the best thing to do as an appeciating asset, unlike cars which just loose money.

but my heart is saying option 3..... no but then option 2 the 330d ..... mmmmm lovely car mmmmmm

sorry too tough...
