as if mate if you need to go fast its easy dont buy a diesel!!! ha thats why cupras are petrol thats why their fast

well its good enough for the touring cars so it will still be quick. im sure i heard it i aint making it up. personally im a petrol head at heart getting a k1 soon i will always go for bhp over mpg unless i really run out of money or something lol

Not sure where they would get the engine for it though.

170bhp 2.0 is the biggest engine they do (in 2.0 form), as I doubt they'd drop in anything bigger.

Would be nice, but I doubt it.

Alot of people here are saying it wont happen. I think it will. the 204hp 2.0TDI is taking time to reach VAG cars. Would have thought audi would have finished developing it by now. Shouldnt be much longer to go.

I would rather have a Diesel Cupra then a petrol Cupra. Hope they emulate their BTCC Diesel success to their consumer model line up.

Having sat and watched them trundle past me at Oulton doing about 25mph in race 2 and 3, petrol is the future!!!!!!!!!:p

All the european manufacturers have been diverting alot of their R&D money to diesel development for the last two decades but now they are changing back over to petrol, and with the advances they have made with turbos on diesels they will utlize this on the next gen petrol engines.

People wouldn't be all that happy if they bought a car that :

1) Worked fine in the morning
2) Developed a problem on the way back from the chip shop at lunch and was overtaken by the petrol equivalent from a year ago
3) Got pulled by the police in the afternoon for coughing out soot and holding up all the other road users.

so y is there diesel cupra ibizas?

The Ibizia Cupra Diesel is quick but in a different league to todays hot hatches.

Most modern hot hatches have around 200 bhp as a minimum, the Ibizia is only 150 or 160 from memory (sorry don't have an old enough magazine to hand as it was dropped a while back).

I've driven one and although not a bad car, nowhere near as good as the modern hot hatches that I've driven.

diesels for skint/tight people haha

Or for people who don't want to constantly fill up their car...

Recently I've been using the car a fair bit for work and going away on weekends. Thats meant I've had to fill up 3 or 4 times a week which is a right pain.

The last thing I want is to either get up 15 mins earlier to fill up with fuel at daft o'clock, or get fuel on my way home which after a 14 hour day, 4 of which driving I just want to get home.

I'm going to look at a diesel for my next car, I'll be sacrifising performance but will be a lot more convenient.

I agree 100% with you there, my last car, vec Vxr was very heavy on petrol (as expected), and I had to fill it every 2-3 days, I moved to Shetlend where pumps are few and far between and I had to plan journeys around the pumps !! I bought a deisel for convenience not cost.... And for an oilburner it is fappin quick, though I am still a petrol head at heart .....

i use 2 have a skyline gtr b4. me and my girlfriend decided it was point less us having 2 cars as i dont use mine 2 often, so we got rid of both ours and got a a leon fr tdi. she has to travel sum distance each day so it makes sense 4 us to have a diesel with better economy rather than a cupra. its just common sense, not being tight or skint.

Running a petrol Cupra soon gets pricey. I've put in £150 worth of petrol in 4 days before.

A Cupra isn't economically viable if you do a lot of miles. I'm lucky that I work from home a fair bit and if I do go to an office I can normally claim mileage, which usually covers at least half the cost of petrol depending where I go.

This week the furthest the car will go is to the dealer to get repaired again.

I've never driven a diesel that quite matches the performance of a petrol hot hatch yet, but then again I've not tried the 170 bhp VAG engine...

I had an astra Vxr 2 cars ago , and now the Fr170. mapped, so running a few bhp less than the vxr , but a good few lb/ft more, I reckon on paper they would be pretty similar performance wise, but you just can`t beat revving a petrol engine and hearing it , it`s a different experiance really .... I work offshore so the car is not used for commuting either ..

modern diesels r impressive but like u say u cant beat a petrol. u have sum'd it up bainie.
