does anyone know what are the differences between thw 00-05 leon 1.8t 180ps 4x4 and the 99-03 s3. offcourse there is the 30hp and 35 nm difference, but are the suspension and brakes of the leon the same as the s3's or as the a3 1.8t(150/180ps) quattro?

brakes are the same, but the suspension is not the same as the S3.

The Leon 4x4 is more a normal A3 4x4 than S3

so tha leon's suspension is softer than the s3? is it also with a higher clearence?

than what? an S3? maybe. than normal leons, no.
think of it like an A3 and an A3 quattro

my leon doesn't have very high clearance at all and it's stock

the a3 quattro is higher than an ordinary a3, the s3 offcourse is the lowest of the bunch
i know leons are generally quite low, i was wondering how it compares with the s3
because if ithas the suspencion of the a3 quattro it should be higher than tha s3 and perhaps the front wheel drive leon

They have different turbos aswell
The S3 has the KO4 and the Leon either the KO3 or KO3s.
So the S3 could also be a 225 BHP as these came in about this time.
For remapping the KO3s will remap to about 230BHP and the KO4 will remap to about 270BHP

more space in the Leon aswell

Very different 4 wheel drive system as well. The cupra 4 uses the 4 motion system i believe since Audi will not let any other brand use the Quattro system. There is a big difference.

The quattro system on the S3 is the same as all the other group cars - Golf, Leon etc. As stated above it's a Haldex system. This is because Golf class cars have transverse engines and the proper quattro system works on longitudinal engines only.

what audi wont allow is the use of the brand name quattro

Audi quattro in transverse application is Haldex switchable 4wd, audi quattro in longtitudenal applications is quattro full time 4wd, a la "proper quattro"

same haldex system in a VW is called 4Motion for example.... or in Passat which is quattro drivetrain on the V6 is also branded 4Motion for VW

europe only and left hand drive - choice of 2.8 vr6 / 1.8 20vt / tdi (150 bhp iirc)

Did they actually do a Cupra 4x4 in the uk market? I've never seen one before now.

nope, never made in rhd

spot on, and it was only available in certain countries
it started with the 4wd 180bhp version
then the cupra 4 was made for around 12 months from late 2001 to late 2002 and it was either the v6 or the 150 pd tdi.
all 4wd versions built after are just 4wd top sports

Shame it never made the UK as i am sure a full blown Cupra R $X$ would have made my front drive.

Anyone got some decent photos of them?

Words of wisdom from Bill. So the S3 use the switchable haldex 4wd system given the transverse nature of the engine? I take it's FWD most of the time and only sends powere rearwards went it senses front wheels slipping.
