Hi All,

So what's the deal with these engines. Is the Polo engine the same as our Leon's? The next obvious question is can we get hold of the extra torque and bhp? Although I'm assuming it wouldn't be straight forward or even possible without software or mechanical changes.

Thanks,

Ian

180ps Leon and 192ps Polo GTI/Ibiza Cupra engine

This has been mentioned in several threads on the main Leon Mk 3 Forum (moaned about it a few times myself!). As far as I am aware, there are no mechanical differences between the engines, the main issue is that the torque is restricted to 184 lbs/ft by the engine management software on the DSG Polo and all 1.8 Leons to protect the dry clutch 7 speed DSG (which of course us manual Leon owners do not have!)

As for bhp figures it may well be just marketing, as with the Cupra/Golf R engine. Various tuners (eg APR, Superchips, Revo) post "before and after" power/torque curves on their sites and the ones I have seen give a "before" figure of anywhere up to 195 - 205 bhp on either engine.

It would be nice if we could get the engine management software as an upgrade through the official network to avoid warranty issues (that extra torque would be very handy), but as many others have said, can't see it happening as the cars have been homologated with the factory outputs.
