Iv currently driving an 09' plate FR pd170 , but later on in the year ill be looking at buying a face lift model and I think iv decided I'd like to try the petrol model.but my dilemma is should I buy the fr tsi or a cupra?

Now iv had a look about at the cars currently for sale and it seems to me that the cupra hold's atleast 2k premium over the fr's that iv seen,in terms of age and mileage. But one of the things iv also noticed is there tends to more fr's available with the goodies like sat nav and what have you,

Has any body owned both? And can shed some light on if the cupra's extra bhp and seats are worth that extra money.or should I get the fr and spend the rest on a holiday

Tanks Dan

Edit: just to add I did use the search function, and it didn't give me any answers

FR with a petrol then remap. No diff in style and its lower on insurance. Makes sense really. FR petrol is quick I think. Ive had the K1 in the past and to be honest FR petrol is better all round and like I said still quick.

It depends what you want. If you want the speed but for less money then do as mark says and remap the FR, although I doubt the argument of cheaper insurance would stand when you tell them about the map. The cupra is an all round better car ( if you are going to keep them both standard), more bhp and torque, much bigger breaks, better interior, more tuning scope ( Unless you get the FR TSI and not TFSI), looks better. If you want just a quickish car from time to time and you're not serious about modifying then just get the FR with more goodies.

Iv been quoted just over £300 fully comp on the cupra(esure, current insurer) so insurance ain't a problem.

I don't think there'll be any tuning so to speak but maybe some styling tweaks depending on the car,

Is there much difference between in gear acceleration between the FR and cupra (1/4 mile times as a comparison)

I'm after the best all rounder handling, acceleration and smiles per miles so to speak.the diesel just don't cut it.

The Fr iv seen is the red 59 plate on auto raider ,dsg, sat nav, centre armrest 10k miles for just under 10k

And the cupra

Is a white 10 plate 12k miles sat nav, quilted leather, 12.5k.

Although I know these won't be around when I ready to buy there the sort of cars im comparing

I'd like to test the dsg if only just to discount it from the equation .

What are the major differences between the fr and cupra, brakes, seats, bhp have already been mentioned,

How does the handling compare? Are they the same or does the cupra have tweaks

Theres not a huge difference lol, I test drove the TSI and didnt think they're was much difference? Sounded MILES better though

Well you can't exactly nail it on a test drive can you to notice the true difference! On a test drive pottering around a diesel will always feel faster due to the low down torque. I just checked some acceleration figures:

Seat Leon 2.0 TSI 211- 50mph-80mph- 4.2 seconds
Seat Leon 2.0 TDi 170- 50mph-80mph- 6.0 seconds
Seat Leon 2.0 TDi 140- 50mph-80mph- 8.6 seconds
Seat Leon 1.9 TDi 105- 50mph-80mph- 11.0 seconds

Seat Leon 2.0 TSI 211- 50mph-110mph- 16.3 seconds
Seat Leon 2.0 TDi 170- 50mph-110mph- 23.1 seconds
Seat Leon 2.0 TDi 140- 50mph-110mph- 33.0 seconds
Seat Leon 1.9 TDi 105- 50mph-110mph- 40.7 seconds --------------LOL

 my bad lol, yeah your right you can't go flat out on a test drive.. The one I went to test was an 07 with 45k od miles seemd in pretty bad shape but I believe it was the 200hp as to the 211, still felt quicker but as you say I couldn't really go flat out.. Still pick a cupra though :D

Thanks for the info, ill use it wisely when it comes to making my decision, ill still test drive them both and the newer cr170 and pick the one stands out the most,

Cupra looks cooler + its faster. Id imagine it would also hold its value more so than the FR? Let us know what you pick :)
