Tarek...I beilieve you have been mis-informed slightly although there is confusion on the subject! Currently, if you fit projectors you don't need autolevelling and washers....the MOT documentation states that if they are fitted then they must work. Thus, if they are not on the car then you won't fail the MOT. One thing to note is that when the car is taken for the MOT just clean the headlights otherwise the tester could fail on beam pattern....if they are really anal!!!

If you're wondering how I know this...I joined an MOT forum...sad but true, however I wanted to know from actual MOT testers what the regulations were!

Rob it might sound sad but if it gets you the info you need then its worth it. I don't know if you saw my link to the bi-xenon headlights on eBay for nearly 400 notes but can you tell me if I used those would I just need the different pin adaptor to make them work or is it more technical than that.?

+1 on this =]

I think im about to actually go and buy some projectors!!!!
How long do you think shipping will take for the projectors if i buy from theretrofitsource?
Anywhere in UK sell decent projectors?
I know HID Direct got a set for abuout £120 but not sure what quality is like and they are H4s i think =/

If they are for your car (as in face lift) then you would need the pin adapter and also have them activated via Vag Com...someone local with a cable can do it for you for a pint!....have a look in the Vag Com section on the forum as there are local people who can help if you do go down the route of buying them.

I'd say about 1-2 weeks however customs might charge you £20+ for holding them for a week too!
As for the UK...not sure...HID's direct are probably as good as anyone. To be honest, they all get them from China so why not cut out the middle man and save yourself some cash?....I'll send you the details of the place I got mine and if you pay a bit extra you'll get quick delivery. Let me know.

Thanks very much for your help Rob thats a great help. The pin adaptor is like what Tarek said about 10-12 pin as there is a 14 pin as well am I right in saying. Just out of interest how much difference in price cost is it in retrofitting your own to buying them.

Not sure about the pins but you will know once you get the headlights as to which adapter to get. Most of the pins are in the same location however I think a couple need moving around.

Retrofitting price will vary depending on what you go for. I purchased a set of used lights off ebay for £60...they are european but this doesn't matter as the only difference is the dipped beam reflector which is being replaced by the projector. The projectors and other bits (shrouds, HIDs, ballasts, D2S bulbs, harness for bulbs, sealant etc.) are probably about £100. Total about £160 but lets say under £200 to be on the safe side!

I presume you have seen my trial lights? Have a look at page 2 of this thread.

Thanks Rob. Yea I saw your trial lights they look really good. Didn't realise you can retrofit them for that low a price no wonder people try and do it that way when the price of them new is so much.

I will apologise for my stupidity with this question I see that TRS do complete bi-xenon kits with your trial lights Rob are your xenon projectors you have high and low beam if so what happens to the high beam in the light unit by the side light. Like I said sorry if this is a stupid question.

No worries about the questions!...basically you connect the solenoid of the projector (the metal bit that flips to allow more light out) to the existing high beam light....you then have dual high beam!

Practically yes, Will, that's all you have to do. However, it is technically not as easy as it sounds. Drilling a hole that would be perfect for the lens will not prove easy, and you'll also have to overcome the fact that the back of the lens will be sticking out of the headlight's rear, which means you'll not be able to properly fit the back plastic cover and will have to create something to close the head light with.

Also it would be better if you would point the head lights at a clear wall in front of you (rather than a floor), mark the alignment, and then try to match it with the lenses. Do it from a distance as it's different when you're doing it from a close distance.

When you're done with all of that, just clean the headlight on the inside, clean the cover really well, re-seal them back together and let them dry, and then install them to your car and do your alignment magic. Afterwards you're good to go. I'd buy the FX-R lenses because they are very good quality, look good, and have a great alignment if done right. I believe those are the ones Rob purchased as well.
Good luck, Will, and don't be lazy, just get on with them already!!

Tarek...here is the back of my headlight....extended and all sealed up with epoxy and some black silicone.

Rob thank you very much for the pictures. That looks very efficient and well done, in fact they look much better than the back of my retrofitted headlights (that don't stick out of the back), lol.

I got my old headlights back and they are sitting in the trunk of my car. Hopefully soon I'll have the effort to try and sort them out and keep them as a spare in case anything (hopefully not) happens to my current ones.

Right now I am dealing with the condensation issue. I am waiting for the weather to get better so I can fix that, and also to use plastidip on my mirrors and wheels.
