Leon FR T FSI DSG - Worth it?

Hey all,

Looking at a Seat Leon FR T FSI DSG with Xenon lights, RRP is 19,120 and TDN through some company called Sidlow Group offer it at 16,397.

With a £2,500 deposit I am looking at £277.7 a month for 36 months (3 years) though I think I can get that down a little.

What are your thoughts? Is the FR T FSI faster than an 06 A3 TDI DSG (140)? Says it is faster and you get so much with an FR it seems extremely value for money but I don't want any problems with the car, though I want a petrol car with a bit of speed. As a young driver my options are limited an a SEAT seems perfect.

Has anyone experienced this model of car? What do you think of it and compared with a TDI A3.

Don't know how you are getting the car at that price. I got a price from them TDN for a FR DSG with 18's and bluetooth (both of which are a must (bluetooth for obvious reasons and 18's cos the 17's look poo))for £17057. I havnt bought one yet though.

Anyway, the car will be miles faster than a 140 dsg.

I have a Leon Sport 140 bhp tdi manual and want to upgrade and go back to a performance petrol as I had the Leon Cupra Mk1 before hand.

The dealers are doing a 24 hr test drive on the FR DSG as a SEAT promotion so take advantage. My dealer is just waiting for his demo to arrive.

The local dealer does not want my business so I will have to go to the next nearest one about 20 miles though I don't think Listers will price match.

The price I got was a quote from the deal negotiator. I only added the xenon lights.

I used Direct Seat for my 07 FR TFSi and they were great, Easiest car purchase I've ever done. Can't vouch for anyone else tho

Sent a question on Sunday so probably get back to me in few days, TDN is bad, the price was not £277 but 320!!!!!!!!!!!! Yet a friend just now said he got a quote 3 months back at £290 with £1000 deposit!!!

See what Direct Seat say I guess.

wow! are you sure you havnt been quoted for the the FR without the DSG?? thats a pretty hefty discount if the numbers are correct. might be worth double checking with TDN.

What are peoples opinions on the DSG. I was surprised to see it knocked in this months Top Gear. They said even in ''paddle mode'' the car will change up auto if the revs are high. That seems stupid to me and would surely take away the point of having a semi-auto box? Will it not let you change on or just before the red line?

Were Top Gear slagging it in a SEAT? If so, they are slagging it since it is in a SEAT. If it were in a Golf I'm sure they would love it!!

As far as I am aware the gearbox will automatically change up when the rev limiter is hit. Seems sensibile to me.

I agree, but the way they reviewed it inclined that you could never get the best from the engine without an auto change up. They did mention its the same in all VAG cars

i test drove the golf gti with the DSG (this was last year everyone before it was available on the FR, before i get ) so its the same engine and gearbox. and yes the DSG does change up automatically when you hit really high revs, but you got to be pretty much red lining it before it does change up.

if i remember correctly, you slam your foot on the pedal and the car shoots off, you hit the redline and the auto box waits for you to change up. if you hesitate and dont it does it for you. thats the feeling i got from it, i just thought it was a way the gearbox and engine protected itself if someone just refused to change up.

similarly it does the same on the way down, so if ur in too high a gear and going slowly in manula mode, it will automatically change down for you (before you stall the car! )

that was the best test drive i ever had where the sales guy knew exactly how to sell that car, by letting you loose at it and encouraging you to drive it hard and let the car sell itself!

shame we had a little one on the way and discounts were scarce, so decided against it in the end

I am a happy owner of a FR TDI but the option of a test drive of the FR TFSI has swayed me. I really want a DSG variant as I love DSG. I found it works great and doesn't nanny you at all (tested in the Golf GTI as well)

Now just a question of how I persuade the GF that I can afford it
