Leon FR tdi tyre noise

i've never had any tyre were problems on my car. even before i had the suspension channged my rear tyres would hardly wear. now after the suspension mod and 4 wheel alignment, the tyre noise has been reduced. sometimes on motorways i can only hear wind noise. star performance reduced my rear camber by 0.5 degrees to help tyre noise and reduce wear even more. so far so good. Seat supposedly run high rear camber to maximise rear end grip, but on standard set-up it wasn't very planted. thhey trade off for high camber is also high wear on the inside shoulder. it will be very difficult to get seat to admit they are in the wrong. at the end of the day you may have to pay from your own pocket to go to an indpendant firm to correct your alignmen.

i got the same croc of **** reply from Seat as Paul T.
anyway, in the vain attempt to get some mileage from my lovely bridgestone RE050 tyres i put my nice new Dunlop 9090 sports on the rear and the noisy Bridgestones on the front.
the rear is now quiet, but OH!! joy its even noisier than before, i now have more noise over a wider speed range and wheel wobble and braking noises and ETC ETC.
just hoping that after a couple of hundred miles they may wear in, if not its another £250 for more Dunlops.
if we are not prepared to get together to spank Seat as a group of clearly unhappy customers, the only way to prevent this occuring is to rotate the wheels frequently before the rear ones are worn to badly, the end result of this is of course 4 new tyres at the same time .£500

I've got the same prob. There are a few posts on this already in the forum, especially around choice of tyre, but I 'unofficially' got told that the Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres would be OK with the rear camber setting. I'm now on 25k on the Bridgestones, and am on the verge of needing a straitjacket from the noise. I've not been able to justify the cost given the amount of tread left (about half worn at the centre - mostly motorway driving)...but I feel I may have to give in!

I wouldn't take the Dunlop comment as gospel, my mk2 Octavia vRS (same chassis) had feathered the inside of the OE rear Dunlops Sport Max tyres on the original rear camber settings, sounded like a wheel bearing etc.
Now that I have had the 4 wheel alignment carried out to the revised rear camber settings (1°20’ ± 0°30’) which cost me £50 and put new tyres on, the car drives a lot better and quieter. There are alot of similar posts on Briskoda about rear tyre wear etc on the Octavia Mk2.

Think they're taking p*@s selling cars that have incorrect set up. When I had my 4 wheel alignment done said they adjusted as much as possible but still couldn't quite get to correct tolerances & this cost me £90!

Hopefully when I fit new tyres problem should be solved but doesn't make it any better for other people.

I'm sure there are a lot of people on this forum who also have this issue.

Normal wear and tear is what you will get from most dealers, count yourself lucky if you manage to get you dealer to pay for a 4 wheel alignment check.
For the sake of £50-60 for getting it checked and corrected though I would just get it done, at least then you have peace of mind and longer lasting tyres.
I think its effecting most of the new VAG platforms with fully independent rear suspension.

What if we swaped tyres over on the back, so that the inside edge was on the outside? Would this not prolong the life of the tyre? The 50p edges would soon wear down on the outside edge would'nt it ? Just a thought...

Had crossed my mind. Not sure if some tyres have to go on a particular side if rotational?
If not then could have them swapped on the rims to see if would even up. not sure would help me though as been on for long time & also had alignment done so shouldn't wear as much.

This is what I did when I moved the rear tyres to the front and it seemed to do the trick.

still bloody noisy after 200 miles with the worn tyres from the back now on the front.
cant wait to ****-can the bridgestones for something else.

Had mine done under Seat warranty but the problem is still there [ there was a chap who gave values for the setups I think it was on this site] was also promised pro rata tyre costs but that never came about VW Golfs on the same platform have simlar problems too.

I dont believe any tyres will cure the problem, it's just the way the car is setup. The problem does go away on new tyres for a short while, but not long.

I guess it's just something you have to learn to live with. It's worst on new tarmac......

I think its disgusting that we should have to put up with this, i for 1 will not spend out £££ every 6000 miles or so....Its ruining the enjoyment of the car. If i could sell it without losing too much money , i would....fecking seat uk, bunch of *****!!!

Yup m8.. count me in, the more the better..

I went to my local bathwick today, to see if they would swap my rear tyres over. The guy wanted £60, told him to do one..lol. Will try kwik fit next.....

If we get enough response we can then put something to Seat & then see what they have to say!

Anyone else out there that has suffered this problem please step forward!!
