So somewhere like Kwik Fit could sort it?

Just for info my local branch, near York, of North Eastern Tyre & Exhaust are laser checking 4 wheel alignment for FREE.
Am told the maximum charge for adjusting everything would be £59, less if less adjustment needed.
Am booking my tfsi fr dsg in when I get time soon and may take my own settings based on a very good post elsewhere on SCN (as linked to above on this thread).
Will feel happier knowing what the settings should be to avoid being "fleeced" as a "before" printout is provided by North Eastern.
They have a branch in Wallsend, Newcastle 0191 2626363

when getting 4 wheel alignment, u need to specify a reduction in camber. As the link alex has given above, the rear camber was too great.

as for the alignment costing £99, thats too expensive. try finding another garage.

Agreed £99 to expensive. I paid £60 & think was about extra £15 per adjustment. Worked out about £90 in total.

I'll post a picture of my results in someone can tell me how to get photos on here!

Then if anyone can tell me if they look alright I'd appreciate it. Just had 2 new Goodyear Assymetrics on the rear & don't want to kill them straight away!

Cheers

To post images, resize them to be useful but small-ish, upload them to some webspace somewhere (you probably get free webspace from your ISP) and then just put the URL to each image in between [ img ] and [ /img ] tags (but without the spaces in the tags).

Well this is cool posting from NE TYres & Exhaust in their customer waiting area, drinking my free Latte, while the fitter sets up the 4 Wheel Alignment kit, watching that on a big Samsung telly.
Now all will be revealed, did it come out of the factory pants or what, not that I have any particular wheel problems (yet).

Bit concerned the fitter wasn't very interested in the settings I want it to be set too, "before" measurement not done yet.

Well I have had mine to today at NE Tyres & Exhausts, I also have had Continental Sport 3s fitted to the front. I have only drove the 5 miles home and have to say it is only slightly quieter. I got them to set it up to the settings advised on here, all 4 wheels were out before they did it.

I have Pirellis on the back and they look pretty new.

I can't pinpoint where the noise is coming from, I can hear the tyre noise but there is also an underlying deep humming noise which hurts my ears after a while.

I am a bit down after spending £270 for very little improvement

I must have taken my eye of the game drinking my coffee and was a bit rushed by them (near closing and another vehicle waiting for the ramp) as when I got home and looked at the charts and it would appear the cambers have not been adjusted to what I wanted them.
I think the guy concentrated too much on the fact my front offside toe was sticking out and my rear nearside toe was sticking in :(
Need to do a few checks first as I am not totally convinced he used the correct "factory" settings for my vehicle :help: although this should not of mattered as I told him what I wanted.
Only cost me £35.00 which they took no trouble of course!

I clocked the large ammount of negative camber on the rear of my FR as soon as I got it home from the dealer last year. The rear wheels are noticeably leaning in at the top, it looks like something from the BTCC. Since reading this thread I've been checking out other cars as I drive about, I haven't noticed any that have as much neg camber as my FR.

Tempted to get the neg camber reduced, road noise is a problem.

Update: it is quieter on motorways and is acceptable now, the only problem I have now is at low speeds like 30, I still hear the low drone like a bearing gone.

I may pop in to Seat on Monday and see what they think

Since finding this forum it has opened my eyes to all kinds of "quirks" I've found with my tdi 140 ref sport.

I too have the rumbling groaning sound at motorway speeds and round town. Had car back to stealers and they had to change the front discs at 1000 miles because they were warped. Had it back for a balance/tracking check and they found nothing.

Still had a vibration/rumbling on the front that has gradually gotten worse until today it felt like something was binding on at the front. Going round slow corners theres a whiring/grinding noise.

I do 90% motorway miles and it's getting unbareable.

Wondering where I stand on giving it back. I want a kia ceed. Test drove both the Kia felt better put together and as good to drive. It's just they couldn't give me the deal seat was.

Good looking cars seats, just badly put together in my experience.

I have just fitted new tyres and now have Uniroyal Rainmaster 2's in place of the factory Bridgestone Potenzas. Size is 225/40 18.
I have to say these have made a massive improvement in all areas - better handling wet and dry, less road noise, slightly better comfort
Well recommended to all :)

Same problem here (Leon FR TDI 08), contacted Customer Services and got the same load of tosh back from them. Mine had done 13K and were illegal on the insides at the back but had over 5mm in the middle and outer. Had 4 way laser alignment done and was told the car is within the tolerance for the set-up.

I had raised the tyre problem with the Dealer twice and Seat UK when they had about 5k and 7.5k on and was told there was nothing wrong - guess I was right and there was. As it had been raised I was told that my dealer would put a goodwill request in with Seat but to be honest don't expect owt from them.

They sell the cars and don't care or know how to keep the running right - highly doubt I will be buying another Seat and this is my 4 and would say the worst of the lot. The guy at the tyre services place said he see Leon FR regularly with the problem and in the trade it is a known fault but Seat won't admit it - could it have something to do with the new model having a softer suspension set up:think:

Well got the response from Seat (don't care) Uk today via the dealer and shock horror they will not contribute towards the tyres as there is no problem with tyre wear or set-up!!

Mine has been 4 way laser tracked and was within the tolerance and nothing advised to be changed. I know the camber is the problem as this is evident from the way it sits on the ground and know that it is there for cornering to have more tyre in contact with the road but it shouldn't be causing all the problems.

Anyway, I guess for the moment this is my loss but as I am replacing the car in the next 3 months or so and was going to go for the face lift Leon but I will be trying another manufacturer and it will soon become Seat loss.

Top marks Seat great way to do business in these difficult times!

cheers for the reply, i need a few more responses to take this further, like say to Watchdog, not sure if we will get anywhere but its worth a go.
dont like being told fair wear and tear when it clearly isnt, or the tyres are at fault, its the bloody car setup, i work with automotive engineers and thats a cheapo way of improving the handling without tuning the chassis.

whats the chip like, and how much??

Here, here.I have an 07 tdi 170, and went in for service at 18000 miles and asked to see what the bearing like noise was,the garage said i need a geometry check ,and is not covered by warranty,so i got ats to check it and they said it was o.7 out and wasnt worth doing.I told garage the rear tracking is ok and there must be something else wrong, they said they have sent details to seat to see what could be wrong.i have to take car in,in a few weeks and hopefully they should have getting back to them.I have Pirelli P zero ( rosso) tyres and find them very good in wet weather. My car has got 21 000 miles on and still has plenty of tread on the back but wearing quite bad on the insides. Know of other cars having the same problem as seen it but don`t know the people. Look forward to hearing from you.
