Leon FR tdi tyre noise

Similar issues here on the S3.

First set of tyres (from factory) were Conti Sport Contact 2's. Gave them a cursory glance at 9k miles and it appeared I had about 5mm left on them. Car went in for service, and I was called by the dealer to say you need new front and rear tyres.

At this point I said, you must be joking, I checked them the other week and they had 5mm on them. When i arrived at the dealers they jacked the car up and showed me the inner edges of the tyres and they were almost down do the canvas.

I fitted 4 Mich Pilot Sport 2's afterwards, and whilst not the quietest tyre on earth they seemed fair. On some surfaces (the grey concrete type motorways), they were terrible.

Took all 4 tyres off at 15k, and because I had done pure motorway mileage at sensible speeds the rears were worn perfectly uniformly across the tyre. Therefore I have to assume the hooning about I was doing when car was new causes the tyre wear to be excessively inner edged.

Hi All,

have been suffering with the road noise issue for ages now, but have bitten the bullet and booked the car in for 4 wheel alignment to hopefully resolve it.

I booked in into the local Nissan garage but am now begining to wonder if i did the right thing. I asked for the rear camber to be reduced and got told that this can't be changed as its a fixed axle and its all done by the tracking on the front wheels?
I really know very little about the mechanics of cars, am i wasting my time or should i find another garage?

Cheers

I take it you have the Mk 2 Leon?
If so, cancel your appointment & go to an independant tyre company. The rears can be changed & many people on here have had thier's done including me.

I had really bad problem with mine & had checked/adjusted at Xmas. I still have the old rear tyres which are now on the front so still have some tyre noise but nothing compared to before. Once I can afford to change these tyres as well should hopefully be sorted.

Also worth checking whichever garage you use that they have right settings for your car. I found out afterwards that there are lots of variations. Do a search on here for other threads as other people know a lot more than me.

Hope all goes well & you get it sorted.

Cheers
