leon horn - dead?

ok. bought a 01 leon TDI SE 110.

the horn dosent work. all fuses look ok.

anyone know what the problem is??

need to know quick as MOT is due in a few weeks!!

Sounds like the horns bust. Common fault by the looks of it, have a search on here as others have had the same problem

fairly common problem. Some people replace with a different unit from Halfauds.

The horn itself is located in the bumper, in front of the n/s passenger front wheel.

To get to it you can jack the car up and access from underneath although it could be tricky. Otherwise you can remove the arch liner from n/s wheel and you'll be able to see it there.

AFAIK there are 2 horn type units under there - 1 is for the alarm and 1 is for the horn.

Hopefully someone can confirm all the above.

As Pabs says... it's a bit tricky to get at but once you have it's easy to remove and replace.

I bought one from Halfords after reading on here that the SEAT horns don't last long and cost twice the price. (Halfords £10).

Using a crimping set I wired it up without cutting off the original SEAT connector plug and bolted it on.

LCR is a 2 tone jobby--one of mine went down (sounded like a micra horn!!) and the dealer replaced the sterring wheel centre??????????????
Still the same so then they decided to change the faulty horn unit!!!!
3 visits to dealers in the end!!!!!!

Hi everyone, just to let you all know I have just changed the horn in my 2001 Seat Leon, 20VT model. All I did was pull out the grill surrounding the passenger side fog light using some pliers/grippers which is quite hard to do but a bit of force and it will pull out. There are 4 clips holding it in place.

After removing this, there are two torq screws holding the fog light in place - remove these and stick your hand in and feel downwards and you will find the horn.

Many thanks for this. I was reading the workshop manual, which suggests removing the front bumper - what a ball ache that would be.

Found your advice pabs, and followed it - easy peasy even for a novice like me! I sourced a known working horn from a breaker and fitted that. Hardest part was getting the damn connector off.

Remove n/s front wheel, 9 or so torx screws (T6?) holding arch liner on. Horn attached to bracket by a 13mm nut - too shallow to get a socket on it.
You putting in something more "manly"? Dukes of Hazard perhaps?
