Hi, I have the 272 Cupra Leon Estate and after just 2 weeks have had a total failure due to the 12V battery.

After much arguing with Cupra Assist they took it to the dealership who advise me that they currently have 3 (yes three) Leons in with the same issue.
Cupra Assist (AA) diagnosed dead battery cells however the dealership initially said the battery was fine as it appeared to be a known issue (they have a TPI??).

However, after applying the TPI the issue is still there, the battery has now been replaced but has made no difference. Cupra UK have advised the dealership to postpone all futher work until a fix is identified. My car remains unfixed at the dealership.

I am aware others have similar issues and would be grateful to see if anyone has had this fixed.

Does this sound familiar to anyone - having had Seat Leons previously which worked without fault I am more than a little disappointed in a car failing with just 604 miles on the clock. Warning lights

Insane. The complexity of both the software and the electrical systems on these things, mean that no regular mechanic has any chance of working out what is wrong with it. You need software and electrical engineers just to diagnose it, let alone repair it. We've reached a point where a single line of code or a 25p capacitor can render a £60k car undriveable, and we've gone 10 steps backwards in terms of reliability.

It's not just VAG group either, my mate has had a load of problems with his brand new BMW PHEV too. Broke down on the motorway after just over 1,000 miles. BMW told him it would be a month before anyone can even look at it.

I'd tell them to take the thing back and give me a full refund + compensation. Not fit for purpose.

Hi there,my 2021 Leon excellence Lux has just gone down with the same issue, virtually every warning light imaginable came on and car then cut out. RAC man thought generator faulty as charging volts were low and 12v battery dies. Similar fault over on Audi apparently very common and starter generator approx 2k to fix. Any one else affected by this? Apparently parts are in very short supply, wonder why.

Yes my battery needed replacing after I had had the car only a few weeks. All the fault lights came on. The AA came out and told me straight away that the battery was faulty. It was replaced but it took a week for the replacement to be fitted as Riverside needed to do there own checks. My car was in for a week to have a new battery fitted.

Hey, I’ve had a very similar issue with my CUPRA Leon 1.5 eTSI 150 CV DSG (2024 hybrid).
My car has had repeated 12V electrical problems:
  • The 12V battery has been replaced twice.
  • The alternator was replaced once.
  • Recently, after the fourth repair, the battery warning light appeared again one evening, but went off as soon as I started the engine.
  • It seems to come and go every few months. I’ve spent a lot of time and trips between Pisa and Prato for these repairs
  • I’m now considering taking action / pursuing a claim — has anyone successfully done this?

Hello!
Yes, similar issue with my Leon 1.5 etsi and I decide to monitorise 12V battery. Look what happening in attach picture. I a few hours the 12V battery is almost completely drain. That means almost 10 amps or more in stationary mode. What could consume so many I don't know and the dealers just change the battery.
They don't solve the problem because is very difficult to find it.
