Loom and receiver needed, e bay is your mate here, www.ebay.de is best for this stuff and remember this is a VW system so best to search under VW sat nav.
Also search on www.vwnavi.com as there is a lot of help here to, and yes you can play a dvd player through your sat nav.

you need an adaptor to go into the back of your nav unit which basically gives you three jack plugs, one yellow video and a red and black audio. You can then plug whatever you want into it.
I used to have a dvd player which was in the boot but it buggered up after about a year. I now have installed a 60gb media player where the cup holder is. Got all the films for the kids, music videos and mp3,s. It does look the business. You do get a buzz through yoru speakers though from the alternator I think. Best site I found for this was VWNavi

I got a dietz1212 adaptor of ebay a couple of years ago, was about £70 back then i think. Worth it though, nice little project for little expense. Oh yeah, you also have to enable the AUX/Video in the menu of your MFD but that is easy.
