Hi Guys,

should i be worried that i had my Leon serviced just after christmas and the other day when i was checking her over i noticed that there was virtually no oil registering on the dip stick.

Is this comom on the 2.0 TDi engine or am i missing something. It is booked in for another srvice in a week so just topped up the oil with a litre.

As im new to diesle ownership i am looking for some advice as to whether or not this is something to worry about / keep an eye on?

Cheers

how many miles hav you coverd from the last service sounds a bit exsesive to me but if u done a lot u can expect it to drop

u could be loosing a little at the turbo seals and also the breather pipe that conects to the intake sometimes takes a little much in so its all dependednt on miles imo

how many miles has the car done total ?

any blue smoke at start up wen cold ? and does it still smoke al ittle wen hot ?

The car has covered a total of 81000.

I have done just under 10000 since its last service so im still inside the service window.

I will check tomorrow morning for blue smoke when i fire her up, is there anything i would notice staright of under the hood, any particular areas to check?

not sure tbh m8 im no mechanic just trying to get soem info out of you so others can also answer

i hav a golf tdi and get a little smoke on cold start up but tends to go away 1ns the engine is warm its only done 40k miles and i only do around 8k per year

and also be4 you start her up in the morning check the oil and make sure shes on a flat surface tonight then if ur oil is at the minimum u shoudl still be ok and no major problems as 10k is aroud the service limit

No worries,

Once she is warm she runs fine and as far as i can tell there is no smoke, (apart from when you boot it buts thats normal for a diesle to coat the idiot driving to close behind you!)

its probably just the amount of miles you do as they do use oil just keep an eye on things

engines our days hav so much goin on in them that it hard to pin point what the problem is wen thers a major problem

i rly dont think you hav anything to worry about i 1ns had a 306 hdi and that was like a smoke machine for white/blue smoke and its still runing now 2 years l8a :wtf:

Also comes down to how hard its driven. ;) If you've been giving it some loud pedal then it will use it.

not meaning to make you out to be stupid etc so dont take offence, is there definitly no oil on the dipstick trying to spot oil on a black dipstick aint the easiest thing in the world.

no offence taken,
I waited till the car had been stood on the drive for around 3-4 hours, then removed dip stick wipped clean replaced dips tick checked level. then repeated the same process twic and each time it gave me the same reading of just over the little nob on the very end of the dip stick not quite touching the min charachters on the stick...

I always thought diesels tend to use a bit more oil than petrols do. Sounds silly...but is it the right oil that you're using?

I find that with my petrol one, I was told to use 5w30 by a service centre but found i had to top it up every month at least and the car was using it quite quickly. I spoke to Seat who said it should be fine but can try 5w40 fully synth...and that lasts a lot longer than 5w30 did...

(I welcome your opinions on this though...although go easy as I'm still learning...lol)

That is what Iam lead to believe that Diesle's will always use more Oil than there Petrol siblings.

I would hope that the Seat Dealership ought to know which fuel should go in there cars...

Well... Took my car into a Garage today for the 4 wheels to be balanced and also a free complimetary health check...
They phoned me up 2 hours later and informed me the car had next to no oil in it... no oil leaks found round the gruby parts.... Car was only serviced 6K ago.
So they have performed an Oil and Filter change on her but am starting to get quite worried about it drinking so much Oil between services.

Anone have similar issues with their Leon TDi's around similar Milage (89000) or age 2006?

You mean to say that you DON'T check your oil/fluid levels then! :(
