Leon Very Noisy Cabin at Motorway Speeds

Anyone else disappointed by the amount of road and wind noise when at motorway speeds?

My Leon 1.4 e-Hybrid Xcellence Lux is fine around town, but when it gets to any speed, I find it very noisy, so much so that I'm thinking of getting rid of it. đź‘Ž

The lack of illumination for the heater/ volume control bar below the infotainment screen also drives me nuts!

What tyres does your car have? Some tyres can generate lots of noise at speed; I’ve always found Bridgestones to be noisy.

They are Bridgestone 225/40R18s (as fitted when the car was delivered).

That Leon model was high on my list but went for the Formentor V2 eHybrid in the end. I find it fairly noisy at motorway speeds and it's definitely the Bridgestones, they are terrible imho! The drive train is very quite on these models except when accelerating hard. I'm looking forward to changing the tyres but I'm only 8000 miles in so far and can't really justify changing them before they wear out.
As far as the lack of illumination for the heater/ volume control bar I don't really change the settings that much. But when I do I just push the button and use voice control. Took a bit of getting used to but works fine for me.

Yes, I had a 'loaner' Formentor from the dealer while my car was having a software update, found the noise levels similar, combination of road and wind.

Any recommendations of quieter tyres? Mine only have about 9,000 miles on them, so like you say, won't be just yet!

Seems to be quite a bit of noise getting by the door seals (I think).

Well I'm in two minds whether to go with all season or stick with summers. Unfortunately the all weather's I'd like don't come in Formentor size (245/40/19). If I could get them I'd go for Michelin Crossclimate 2. All season tyres are noisier than summers though.

It's most likely I'll go for summer tyres in which case the Pirelli P Zero (PZ4) Seal Inside are the ones I'd go for. They are one of the quietest tyres available and get a really good rating for grip in the dry and wet. Or maybe the Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV. I'm leaning towards the Pirellis tbh, I've always been a fan. However it'll be a while so maybe I'll go a different route when the time comes.

I can't say I've noticed too much wind noise in mine tbh.

Check the panel gap around the top of the door window, compare the left door to the right. I once had a new Leon delivered with a 5mm gap on one side and a 15mm gap on the other, which is why I had loud wind noise right next to my ear. I bent the top of door inward, to match the other side with a 5mm gap, and the noise went away.

Thanks,
I haven't seen any obviously large/bad gaps or differences between sides, but clearly there's noise creeping in somewhere. I'll take a closer look.

This sounds like something my dad did on his Austin meastro in the mid 80’s, that’s shocking on a new car.

The Climate2s on my Leon are quieter than the Bridgestones they replaced.
