As some of you will know my k1 was helpfully recycled by local layabouts. I haven't a clue what to drive next. I really mean it, totally confused. We will be starting a family in the near future but I don't want to completely compromise my driving principles, I refuse to be a mondeo man! I know I haven't grown up yet because I test drove a jag XF last week and despite all it's great features I was bored senseless. I wondered if people had any thoughts on the matter (including going for a replacement k1, it did the job very well after all).

See, I hadn't realised they'd improved the old one. I had always been a bit snobby about the mps but looking at this one, I am inclined to have rethink. Nice find mate.

Sweet suffering god, V8 power for a pittance.......also very tempting! No problems putting a child and pram in either!

Well it depends how much cash you want to spend. I've just changed my LCR due to starting a family. I wanted to save on running cost but still have something fairly decent. I looked around for a while but decided to stick with the Seat Brand. I opted for the Altea FR. Had it about six weeks now. It does everything I wanted, cheaper to run and still got some flair.

On the downside - Its no where near as much fun and nobody looks at you twice. If you can cope with that, which i sometimes struggle with then your game on.

PS - My mate bought a new Jag XF, he's had it a while now and isnt a big fan. He was Audi mad before that and swapped his A6 for the Jag. Think once he's had three years he will be going back to Audi. Think he's flirting with the RS4 estate. Great if you can afford it

I would get another cupra, but if it was new I would get them to put an airbag de-activator on the passanger side if you wand kids. I had to sell my Porsche mate cus of the nippa (and the payments were double). And the cupra seems as fast, just the cupra don't grip in the wet. I think the leon is very practical for 2 kids.

Getting another cupra does seem like the sensible option. Couldn't agree more on the XF front, it is just not fun. If I had the spare cash I'd get the TT RS, Had a look at one last week and it was a totally different dimension. Not the most practical for a young family, I know, but could serve as a stopgap. Then there is of course the focus RS ... choices, choices.

Does the insurance on a car less than one year old not replace your old car with a new one?

I honestly don't think there is a better all rounder than the Leon Cupra. My kids are 5 and 2. Just back from our hols where we got three suitcases and a buggy and the four of us in.
Tight squeeze mind you. Left it in valet mode for the 2 week park up. On return jump in cranked it up to 320 and the difference between mine and the spanish hire car brought a smile back to my face.

Immediately got trounced by a VXR8 on the motorway but I never really got a chance to test it as my wife was loudly reminding me that the kids were in the back.:D

I wanted to hang a sign out the window to let the guy know he hadn't got away that easy

I thought my friends Astra VXR was not a patch on the cupra. I really had to fight the steering wheel under acceleration and the brakes were awful. The Cupra betters it in every aspect.

Unfortunately mine was 13 and a half months old. Have received a half decent valuation to be honest. I have however hit another problem. After talking to broadspeed I have discovered a massive shortage of stock in the new/nearly new car sector. They were telling me I'd be best factory ordering what I was after because the few pre-owned, ex demos around aren't discounted.
Unfortunately a number of manufacturers are quoting massive lead times and I need a car for september!

He doesn't miss a trick does he ;)

Just drove a TTs and that is a serious contender. Feels a lot more grown up than the cupra.

not being funny mate , but if this had just happened to me i would not be looking at a car that stands out , i would get a car which is plain for a few months then get a better car again later , these scum know you had a relativly new car and know your insurance is going to pay out , its like burglaries they come back again cause they know new stuff will be sitting there waiting for them.
just my opinion , which ever way you go i wish you well.

The TTS is beautiful. Is it practical enough for you?
