yea been told that adam any ideas which one i could use without damaging the plastic

Normal gun wash should be ok, or as mentioned nail varnish remover is well worth a go.

if you get a nail varnish remover with a conditioner in it aswell, its less abrasive, but will still remove the paint.

For something a little less brutal, and kinder to the plastic, try some body spray deodorant such as Lynx. Worked a treat on a rear light cluster I got from a scrap yard for an old Corsa. it didn't damage the plastic at all but brought all traces of the tint off.
