Little help guys.

Alright guys.

Had my cupra a few weeks now and although it my first turbo car the power seems to be a little hit and miss.
Maybe I'm expecting more from the car. I was told it was standerd but its has a forge split r dump vavle. And a green air filter. And a boost gauge.

Reading on here a standerd cupra should boost to between 5-8 psi. On the gauge mine was hitting 15 and then droping back to above 10 though the gear.

But the car feels starts to pull then pull a bit harder then runs out off puff. And feels like it it struggles to get above 80 although it will pull above this just takes a while and in 4th and 5th it seems to hold close to 15 psi and dropping slowy.

I have got a eBay fault reader and I had 3 codes come up.

second air injection system
A 02 lamba sensor
Negative pressure (boost leak)


Since then I have been round and tightend any clips I can. And also did the n249 bypass. And cleared the codes. Now it says I have none. But today I though I'd try unplugging the maf and see how the car drove.

With it unplugged the car idles fine and drives nearly exactly the same to drive with a very slight improvement.

The boost gague is now reading close to 20 psi before dropping.

So do you guys think the cars been mapped and running ruff. Or do we think it could be standard and the boost gauge is broke/breaking

Definatly been mapped if it hadnt then youd get nowhere near 15-20 psi, the boost will peak at its max in acceleration then itll drop the psi down to what the turbo can handle or hold...as its a standard k03 then you cant expect much to be honest. Maybe go get it dyno'd youll get an idea then of any boosting issues.

As for unplugging your maf and the car running better then maybe you have a dodgy maf.

Not yet still waiting for my mate say when he is free to do it. Would just do it my self but been lazy and rather pay. Thinking about getting clutch done why its off so one less job down in the future.

Unless you know how long its been in there for, if i fitted a clutch, then blew the box in 10k miles or so, I prob would just leave the clutch. But if its 5yrs old then obv new one will be fitted, Box out in these is an easy job,

Is there any guides floating about if its not to much off a hassle nite save my self the money and do it my self

You'll need an airgun to get the driveshaft bolts off, if you aint hot one its pointless lol get a quote from a backstreet garage.

No you don't, there is never a NEED for air tools, they only speed things up, a bar and appropriate socket will do the trick, get a mate and get them to put his/her foot hard on the brake, screw a wheel bolt in a hole far as you can, and undo the hub/shaft nut,

Held on by spline bolts, we tried the old bar trick no chance they dont budge and i aint weak either, i had to leave the driveshafts attatched to the box. Airgun ;)

Oh that end? Never had a problem, did the hulk do them up? Unlucky dude, I've never had to use larger than a 3/8 ratchet! And I've done hundreds!

Air tools can make you lazy, plus increase the chance of fatigue on the bolts, with the impact it uses to undo/do up things!

Im not the only one to have trouble getting them off, sometimes when stuffs been untouched for like 10years its not going to crack off.

Airguns can make you lazy but as the dude is no mechanic and isnt planning on removing his gearbox everyday im sure you can let him off just this once ;)

Lol I would do it have access to air guns etc just lazy these days

What's best to do about the clutch as I plan on a k03s or k04 at some point but aiming to keep power around the 250 mark. Is standard clutch on for this kinda power? Cheers

Another thing going back to the power issue iv only manged to do 105 miles from light on to light back on (25 pound fill) with a bit of mixed driving but not to much boost does that seem low mpg?

not starting an arguement, just stating ive never came across ones requiring air tools.

on a funny note: if you can get a long enough bar itll produce more torque than any airgun can! (physics is awsome!)

as for clutch, does the g60/vr6 combo not cope well with k03s/k04 power?
