The black pip in the middle of the demister vent is the sunlight sensor for the Climatronic system.

The remote central locking/alarm system communicates by short-range radio, and so the sensor is an aerial. Don't know where it is though.

My key isnt opening my car any more... works about 1 time out of 20. So rang seat and they said it needs to come in but its gonna cost me a bomb. So wanted to just see if its come lose or dirty or something.

Mark, that pip is the sunlight sensor. Is there something less obvious in the picture that is the alarm/remote central locking aerial?

The aerial feeds into the convenience module which is down by the steering column somewhere - I've never had to look for mine - but it should be an obvious aerial connector. VAG-com may also be of use in telling you what errors have been logged, if any.

Key issues are most often resolved by buying a new fob, though. I suppose you have checked that replacing the keyfob batteries doesn't help?

Yeah replaced the battery. No joy....

So what am i looking for down the steering column?

Also never thought of using vag com. Will plug it in and check it.

My boot wouldnt open today when i tried with the key in the lock. Felt like the lock was broken. Tried unlocking the car from the button inside but wouldnt work so locked it all back up and tried and it worked.

Sound like it could have anything to do with the key not working?

Hi, As it has been told, the module J393 is in the bottom of a steering column, the aerial R47 (sensor) is located under front A-Trim left (driver side). For the help look here h_t_t_p://w_w_w.billswebspace.com/ExtendingMKIVKeyFobAntennaRange.htm
I have such bug, but yet did not fix
