I know questions have been asked about locking wheel bolts/nuts before, however ive done many searches and still cant find what im looking for. Im looking at getting the McGard Ultra bolts (39.9 mm as i have spacers), and i have 17" compomotive alloys. Will these fit ok?

The reason i ask is because i went into halford the other day to ask about getting new ones, and the first thing they said was "what wheels do you have?" i answered "compomotive" and straight away they said, "no sorry we dont do locking wheel nuts for compomotive alloys"

So do i need specific bolts or am i able to use the Mcguards as i always intended?

try motorworld, the lads in the lincoln branch actually know what they are on about and i have seen longer McGard bolts on the shelves, do you need tapered or rounded?
 
If you take one of the bolts out the end will either be flat or tapered. It depends on the style of alloy you have hence why the halfords guy asked the question.

Measure the thread length on the existing bolts you have in mm and then get the corresponding McGaurd bolts with tapered seats to suit.

Also as a rule of thumb (told to me as being industry standard) the thread needs to be a minimum of 8 full revolutions into the hole.

Otherwise the bolts are too short. May not be industry standard but seems a pretty good rule of thumb
 
ive already got the measurements. Bolts need to be 39mm (well the thread does because of spacers)McGuards do 39.9mm tapered bolts, im assuming these should be fine then
 
McGards do radius seated and cone seated, which one will i need? both appear almost the same. Cone has a slightly longer tapered bit compared to radius. You can only get the radius type in the length im after though. Im assuming this will be alright
 
VAG cars normally come with radius bolts,aftermarket alloys normally require the use of countersunk bolts.Just look at the wheel to determine whether its a radius or a countersunk hole.My betting is a countersink.
 
yeah im quite happy to get the 42.1mm one if theres not going to be any issues with the extra 3.1mm
