Hi all.

As some of you might know, i´ve had a 2010 Ibiza cupra in furia gray. I sold it in July due to oilconsumption, rattling from the gearbox and so on. The dealer had it for a couple of days but told me it was all fine. So, i didnt want to keep it when the guarantee expired and i didnt like the "quality" of the car.

Well, i traded it in and bought my self a Bmw Z4 Roadster. Its a really nice car, it really is. But. I still miss my Seat :(

So, in spring i will sell the beemer and buy a new Seat again, however, i´m not sure which to buy. It stands between either an almost new Leon Cupra R (Demo-car) or a brand new Ibiza cupra. I´ve had a Leon FR -09 and as i see it, the Leon is a better car with higher quality, but its a bit more expensive too.

Have the problems with the Ibiza been sorted on the later models? (2011 -->)
I¨ve heard the battery is now in the boot? Any differences felt driving it from the earlier models (2010)?

I will be using the car mostly to the work and back, about 50km/day and the ibiza feels a bit cheaper when it comes to fuelconsumption, taxes and so on?

I WILL have the xenon, auto-wipers, parkingsensors and the automatic mirror.

Help me please, what would you do?

New Leon is out next year so you would probs find value in older shape will decline due to everyone chopping theirs in for the newer one. I traded the boc up for the Leon cupra and tbh I do not regret it in the least. Whilest I do miss the boc I am VERY happy with the Leon and already have major mods planned for it.

I have the battery in the spare wheel well on a mk4 ibiza TDI and yes you can feel the difference. Gives sharper more accurate steering steering. I did also bin all the air con stuff as well which lost even more kg's:)

LIke others have said, I'd hold on for now until the new Leon/Ibiza models arrive. If you definitely want a petrol engine, I'd go for the Leon and stay well clear of the 1.4TSI engines. When the new shape Leon arrives you might pick up a good used bargain (if you don't mind buying second-hand). Re the ibiza, it seems that the later 1.4 TSI units are a bit better than the ones that went before, but they still have problems. I think there are plans to ditch the twin-charged engine for a more straightforward turbo technology. Less to go wrong!

current ibiza over the current leon any day, cant stand the leons interior, hugggeeee dashboard!

but new one next year will look a bit like the scirocco which can only be a good thing.

The dash of the leon always was the one major let down for me too but I can live with that for now as opposed to the worry of the bocs engine going all the time.

Hi and thanks for all the answers.

I won´t buy the new car TODAY, i´ve planned to buy/order the next car in maybe May/June 2012, so i´m well aware of the new models coming up. I´ve seen some spy-photos of the new Leon and it looks promising.

About buying a used car.. I understand what some of you mean, the Leon sold today will drop in price when the new model comes out, but if i buy a Leon or an Ibiza again it will be the brand new model.

I´ve talked to my dealer and he told me that "Seat has put the lid on so to speak", but he could tell me that "Seat will release some sort of facelifted Exeo, a new Leon, a facelifted Ibiza and a brand new micro-car (Lupo-size)." But he couldnt tell me exactly when they would arrive. However, they have some sort of 20-year celebration next year so they "will most likely sell some special editions and brand new models" he said. So, thats the reason i won´t buy a car this year.

To the bloke who suggested a Beemer 123d:
They are nice cars, and rwd isn´t really a problem even in northern sweden if you use studded tires. It also have traction control and stuff so it shouldn´t cause a problem. However, here in Stockholm the city has forbidden the use of studded tires on some streets due to high amount of particles in the air (PM10). Thats just qualified BS in my opinion to save money on the maintainence.
The car itself is, as i said, a nice car. But, i´m not sure i like the bmw´s interior, the tax and insurance is almost twice the money or more compared to a leon and the diesel is much more expensive here than petrol.

As a comparison, a Leon cost 900Skr (87£) in tax/year here, a beemer diesel approx. 4000Skr (387£). Plus, the diesel is about 0.09 £ more expensive/liter than petrol so i will have to drive a lot to save on driving a diesel. Here we pay tax based on the weight and the Gram Co2/km, i don´t know if you have the same system. The insurance is paid for the car, not for you as a person. And if you are young like me (25) you have a really high insurance because of the high amount of young people involved in accidents. Collective punishment so to speak. The upside with this system is that i can lend the car to a friend and as long the cars insurence is paid, passed the MOT and he´s got a license, its just to drive =)
