Hi all,

dogsxxx PM me, the cloned tools aren't great for working on ME7 ecu's, you'll need to pull the ecu and connect on the bench. Plus I'm not too comfortable with talking about cloned tools on the board ;)

Anyway, for all watching the thread, after much careful consideration I've decided to specialise in creating my own files for VAG diesels. Buying files is a risky business, more risky than carefully recalibrating stuff and then logging with vag com yourself! Petrol engines are a little more risky and I must admit, I am a slave to the derv...

I've been studying the EDC ecu's for a while now and I'm already pretty accomplished with VP / PD engines and am learning EDC16 Common Rail (loving the piezo injectors...).

im a little new to start pm'in..ahah,it got a specific program from a well established tuners that deals with me7.5 but i think its for the serial port version not usb...it just wont talk to ecu, think im gonna bin the thing,by the way i got my airbag light sorted

just make 3 more posts mate and you can PM (there is a minimum 10 post before PM), might be able to help you further.

right i've made a little progress,id just turned ignition to off and unplugged the vagcom, plugged the flasher in but forgot to turn ignition on,guess what,it found my ecu.i tried to read it about 3 times, got to 50 to 60% and he thing shut down,i knew i was getting close.so this time i pulled the dash fuse, tur ignition to on and did another read, got it,,,100%,i now have my file on the desktop...yippee...progress.
Now i need to re install my own flash just to make sure no hick-ups...then i can contemplate a mod flash....i dont know how to do checksums so il have to buy one.but saying that i would like to see the software working for this...i got a trial vagfix but i can only see whether my maps compatable....how am i doing..lol

Woahhhh there mate...

have you got a decent power supply that can supply ~14v and up to 70 amps if needed?

Make sure you've got the kit mate! PM me on t'other site. ;)

It certainly isn't a cheap hobby.

Nevada Radio (uk) do a palstar sps9600 with variable volts (digital display). It even comes with 5amp terminals at the front for bench flashing. Just get yourself some heavy duty croc clips.

That still doesn't make it 100% safe tho...

i'm startin to get a bad feeling about this,i've just had a look at the trial winols....put my map in and ......what are all those numbers....
yesterday when the software cleared a few times,do you think it was voltage or that id got my fuses and ignition wrong?...i mean it was safe reading but im seriously doubting the write now...i think my confidence may be nacked.....you say your going to concentrate on diesels,,why would they be easier?

The flash tool really is the tip of the iceberg mate, I'm getting the feeling this could be a v.dangerous thing.

I'm starting to think there's alot of people on this site (and other similar sites) who've bought these cloned tools and know nothing of how to use them or where to start with learning and what extra equipment you need.

These cloned tools are not going away and ebay who are usually quite strict with intellectual property and selling copied stuff are doing nothing. It makes me think maybe they are seen with the same regard as abandonware? Maybe they are just not sure yet where they stand with it?

I do feel sorry for people who have bought these tools and ruined their ecu with a bad flash. Its just that I don't think the admin would be very happy if I created a guide on minimising the risks, what you should know, do's and don'ts etc... It may be seen as endorsing piracy if I refer to the cloned tools I may be wrong tho. If admin gives me the all clear I'll spill the beans in a tutorial...

I really feel this thread has gone off topic and you two ought to be discussing things off-forum.

if dogs had pm function I'd have done that ages ago. dont really want to give my details out on a board. My mail server catches enough spam already. poor spamassassin...
