Heya peeps,
As some of you were probably aware, i was looking for a arosa sport 1.4 16v as a replacemnt to my poorly ibiza that unfortunately got wrote off :(

Well found one on auto trader yesterday that was only about 5 mins from the gf house. So blagged this afternoon off work so i could go and have a look as i know how quickly these things sell.

So, goes over, and looks at it, its a W reg, 2000 1.4 16v sport in the metallic blue (which is a bonus as the previous one i checked out was a yellow one.)
The guy seemed friendly enough at the garage and handed me the keys. He told me he hadnt had chance to clean it as it had only come in yesterday.

I went to look at it and it did look nice, inside was ok, and the paintwork wasnt too bad tbh. There are a few scratches but nothing to major. Inside is tiny though compared to the ibiza, and the glovebox i can probably just fit my sandwiches in for college

Starts the car up and it sounded quite nice tbh, has the blue dials onit which do look a bit barry boy but a nice touch.Opened the bonnet, and looked inside, checked the oil cap for any gunk, and also checked the oil aswell and all seemed ok. Revved the car and it was pretty cold, as i dont think they had started it that day, no rattles that i was aware of, and no white smoke coming from the exhaust.

I asked to see the service history and it had 2 dealer stamps From listers for annual services and oil changes, but the last one was at 17500 miles, and it was now on 44500. So i mentioned this and also said that the rear tyre needed to be replaced to which they agreed. They are also gonna change the oil and filters too and give it a 10k normal service.

Im not sure if the cambelt has been changed though, would it be advised to have this done now? or is there a general time for the cambelt to be replaced?60k?

Managed to knock him down £100 quid aswell and they should hopefully have it ready for saturday morning if all goes well.

So plan to take some before and after pictures, and give it a good old polish saturday hopefully if the weather is good:D

Just need to ring up and start a new insurance policy now and get that sorted then hopefully everything will be good for me to collect on Saturday.

One thing that did puzzle me though was they had no Log book  but they had done a HPI check on it and all came back ok, 4 previous owners etc, and also they didnt have a MOT certficate for the vehicle either.

Now should i demand that it be given a new MOT before i take the car away or ring up somewhere and ask for proof of how long the MOT is gonna last for.

Any replies or comments welcome. And please be nice to me joining your little group :D

Cheers
Daniel

I think the cambelt should be inspected every 60k or 7 years, but they have to take it off anyway to inspect it so they might as well replace it.

As to the MOT, I personally wouldn't buy a car without one, but that's just me...

They said it has an MOT, but they have no MOT certificate  which seems strange, so unless i see in writing that it does have an MOT ill ask them to do it before i take it away.

SEAT used to say 60k or 6 years for the cambelt - they now recommend 40k or 4 years. So it'll need doing about now.

I also wouldn't want a car without proof of the MOT. I'd want them to give it a fresh one

You can check an MOT cert on line

but I'd incist on a 40k service (plugs filters oil etc) and the cam belt done too (parts are well cheap) - and I'd want an MOT

you're not buying private, and he's making money on it - else you'll walk out & need to spend £600 on it if you're not careful

you can also get 'reprints ' of mot certs ( if you can find out where last one was done).. I had to when I got my Cupra. I couldnt get a VIC check without the relevant paperwork, so needed a 'valid' mot cert.
but if you can get them to sort it for you, go for it :)

Ok cheers guys, will call them back tomorrow and see what they say

there are some rear mudflaps on ebay at the minute
god i hat that site, have been looking for things already.......
mk2 rear lights, new headlight bulbs etc etc

with the mot as well just a little thing if the tax is up before the mot is due and you haven't got a certificate they wont tax it plus insurance will be void

You don't need a certificate to tax the car. Just do it online and it will be noted on the database that it has a valid MOT cert.

What happens if you get stopped by the police and they want to see your documents then?
