Loud banging/popping noise

Tonight i was out and about and had a blast down a straight bit of road, after i had gven it the beans i carried on driving normally and about 30 seconds later i heard a popping/bang noise come from under my centre consol basically right under where the ashtray is. Now i know turbo/ downpipe are located about there and now i am worried, it is not the first time it has happened either.

From the inside it sounds like a acorn has landed on the roof that sort of noise but from under the car,

any ideas?

Have you ran vagcom yet to see if coilpacks etc are throwing a wobbly?

maybe one of the rubber exhaust hangers has broken? i had a loud banging/rattling coming from under my LCR, i turned out to be a broken semi-circular bit of metal had fallen off of the cat and was rattling on the shield that goes around the cat. have a look underneath and give the exhaust a wobble to see if there is much movement.

yeah but i dnt have an aftermarket exhaust and mine isnt a nice popping
