well just to throw you all off the ball , i would try tyres

i was there for months took it to loads of garages, mot all passed and said it must be me as the bearings are fine

my unle then closely inspected the tyres and was the rears slightly out of shape ,

i swapped front to back and the noise moved so it was the tyres - in my case anyways

Interesting that and definately worth a try but would the noise stop under braking?

and as for wife stopping moaning when braking its because shes bracing herself (shiting it ) lol

My 'wifeymoan' tends to get a bit louder and higher pitched under heavy breaking but funnily enough it's at it's loudest under acceleration, especially when the kids all shout, 'TURRRRBOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!'

My daughter goes 'weeeeeeee' in the back seat when I put my foot down, gives me all the more excuse to go quick!!:D

Ok I have this quite a lot. I have a mate who has recently looked at my car- he's a vag mech. He said that my rear axle is slightly bent and this is the cause. He has stripped the caliper and said it's fine. Worth a thought.

I'm guessing a new axle is not worth the cost? Wouldn't that put the rear tracking out and leave you with much higher tread wear than normal?

I have no idea. I know a whole axle was 800 odd from seat but I think he has found a way around it. Will know more after the weekend when it is fixed.

Sounds like a Wheel bearing if you haven't hit the rear on a kerb or similar then quite likely to be this

A garage will take 2mins to diagnose this, if it's a wheel bearing. Most wouldn't charge....

Bearings tend to make a wumph-wumph-wumph noise which then becomes a whine/moan when cornering. Noise is usually more noticeable when cornering either left or right.

I had to order a whole rear axle beam after unfriendly experience with a curb. I managed to get one from salvage (a flood damaged Leon) delivered £175. Its all fitted fine although now have to sort out the front!

Give A-Z carparts in Carlisle a ring. In my experience (have a lot of with this at moment!) Once you have bent axle it causes problems elsewhere too

had the back wheel off today, found it wasnt the bearing, the rear disks are worn down far too much AND the the pads were far gone, so a whole new set of disks and pads within the next couple of days are definately in oreder,
i would save for an uprated seat, howver, becuase its the rear brakes and im lacking money im just replacing them for now :)
