Low coolant warning and front parking issues

Had a couple of strange occurrences of late on my 184 TDI 15 plate.

1st came to start the car one morning before going to work and got the water coolant low warning come up on the dashboard. Checked the expansion bottle under the bonnet and the water level was showing just under the min level marker. Topped up with water and not had it since. Read in the manual that this shouldn't happen unless the water overspilled, so must have been over filled at some stage? Will be keeping my eyes peeled and checking to see if any more water starts to disappear. Never had a car warn me of low water before. So happy that it did.

2nd have had the odd occasion on the infotainment where I need to check what's in front of me on the road with a half picture of the car on the touch screen and a x and a mute option. Problem then is the music on the radio stays at a lower level even pressing the x to close off the picture of the car. Nothing obscuring me on the road so can only conclude something causing the front parking sensors to prematurely activate to say there is something in the way? Have known motorcyclists manoeuvring around me to set this off in the past. But the system doesn't clear properly.

Anyone else had these?

I frequently get the front parking sensor problem. Always when it's raining. A coincidence?

The 184TDI is known to use engine coolant/water. I had a mk7 golf GTD for 2 years with the same engine and that used engine coolant and hadn't been overfilled and no leaks at all. I had to top it up from below the low mark twice in 20000 miles.

I think the low coolant is common in the 184's.
The cooling system has air locks in it from new and these take some time to find there way out.
You will probably not have any further issues with this.
As for the front parking sensors, mine have been fine since I got the car in May this year. Do you use a pressure washer by any chance? This can kill parking sensors.

My front sensors do that every now and again, usually only when the car is dirty if i'm honest.

As above the coolant use on the 184 is common normally drops from max to min in about a year sometimes after there filled up they don't use any more sometimes they continue using varies from car to car.

The issue with the parking sensors I've normally seen when the car is dirty or raining ie the sensors are picking up on the rain/ dirt that is on the vehicle.

Cheers all. And yes I do use a pressure washer. But not had any issues with the rear sensors. Relieved to read about the water. Cars travelled nearly 5000 miles now and owned for over 6 months. So was a little worried when the warning came up when I came to start the car. But also relieved I have such a system I the car to warn you. The only issue I need to work out is when I do get that picture of the Car in the Radio screen is how to normalise the volume again without having to stop and restart the engine every time.

cold coolant level will drop when ambient temperatures are lower. so the recent colder weather will mean the level may well have drops from just above min to just below.

I sometimes get the same small parking sensor picture and warning indications on the left of the main screen when the car has been moving very slowly for some time in close proximity to cars in front of me. I think you can clear this (and restore normal radio/media volume) on the Leon FR by pressing the Parking Sensor system on/off button located immediately to the right of the driving Mode button in the row of buttons below the main screen.

I've always used a power washer on mine hasn't done any harm, as long as your not aiming it in tight to the paint/sensors it'll be fine, just seems a few have had the same problem including myself.

my old E-class was prone to water entry into front sensors, especially when the rain was really heavy.
the leon front sensors HAVE come on for no apparent reason a couple of times, but only ever when it's raining heavily.
Unlike the merc, they go back to normal by themselves. The E-class needed replacements once water got in. £120 a time.
Ouch.

Yeah didn't think about switching the parking sensors on and off again. Will try that. Cheers.
