Just recently replaced all the tappets in my 1.4i 99 ibiza as it was a bit noisy when cold. Doing this has made a slight improvement but there is stil quite a loud tapping noise that sounds like its coming from just above no 4 cylinder.

It mainly happens wen in any gear with quite low revs. U notice it especially in 1st- i put my foot on the gas and it taps gradually getting faster but quieter until i get to about 2000-2500rpm when it sounds smooth again.

Any ideas on what else it might be apart from tappets??

oil supply/pump as the revs increase pressure increases until theres a nice flow of oil up on the cam. i assume youve done an engine oil change?
