Just recently replaced all the tappets in my 1.4i 99 ibiza as it was a bit noisy when cold. Doing this has made a slight improvement but there is stil quite a loud tapping noise that sounds like its coming from just above no 4 cylinder.

It mainly happens wen in any gear with quite low revs. U notice it especially in 1st- i put my foot on the gas and it taps gradually getting faster but quieter until i get to about 2000-2500rpm when it sounds smooth again.

Any ideas on what else it might be apart from tappets??

oil supply/pump as the revs increase pressure increases until theres a nice flow of oil up on the cam. i assume youve done an engine oil change?

yeh done a complete oil change at the same time. thats a bit s*** aint it?? cud there be sumin wrong with my oil pump?
i fort that maybe the valves above the cylinder no 4 and below the tappet mite be wrecked?

if its the mk2 1.4 lump then its going to be piston slap. happens when cold then goes when warm??

when the bores wear and go oval and cause the piston to move excessivly and slap the bore .short engine required:(

ur jokin how s*** is that?! is there anything i can do bout it? wil it deteriorate even more as time goes on
