ok guys its time to lower my mk5 ibiza sports coupe im taking advice i can afford coiles or just springs would like to know whats a recommended make of spring or coilles. They very in price want to lower it about 35mm,and what's the difference between coilles and springs? May sound stupid but first time lowering a car?

lowering springs - you use your original shock absorbers but replaces the original springs on the car which lowers the car but gives you a harsher ride.

coil overs - A coilover is an automobile suspension device. "Coilover" is short for "coil spring over strut". It consists of a shock absorber with a coil spring encircling it. The shock absorber and spring are assembled as a unit prior to installation, and are replaced as a unit when the shock absorber has leaked. This provides for optimal damping without torsional loads. Some coilovers allow adjustment of ride height and stiffness, using a simple threaded spring perch similar to a nut. More advanced adjustable coilover systems will use a threaded shock body, coupled with an adjustable lower mount for ride height adjustment, while an adjustment knob is used to adjust damping, commonly referred to as "stiffness." Spring rate also plays a role in stiffness. wikipedia. :D

thanks for the info but also looking for a good make as the market is flooded with different ones. Plus which would you go for?

I'm not sure really. I don't have coils on my car but people on here do! they might help you would this.

I'd go for Eibach i read that they are good for both track and road. :D

I'm away to buy varient 1 KW coilies for my cupra. I'm sure iv heard springs on stock shocks actually makes the car handle worse?

i lowered my bocanegra with eibach springs 35 mm. dropped the car nicely but the ride is rubbish feel every bump. would invest a bit more money and go for the coil overs if i was you

standard suspention are coilovers its just a nickname for adjustable suspension.

i have had eibach, spax, kw's, bislein, avos, gaz, ap's and h&rs.

the best by far was gaz they even made them custom for me to go lower.

Rears aren't coil overs.

You can also go for a spring and damper set up, will be better than lowering springs and standard dampers.

Ive got Weitec coil overs which are great for the road, quite easily find the limit of them on track though compared to say KW but then thats reflected in the price.

techie do you think my standard shocks will hold a 35mm drop cause im thinking of getting it lowered by 35mm what's your opinon? M8

weitec and kw are identical apart from the metal used!

strip down some standard kw v1s and weitecs there the same! trust me i have recond about 12 of them.
