thought LPG was nearly the same price of petrol these days :S Do you have to keep both tanks full or can you run off either ?

i have a doughnut shaped tank in my boot where the spare wheel sits. the spare wheel now sits in the boot. but i dont mind with the saving i get.
the name of the company that did mine is called envirogas. just google them. ask what he will charge if you pay cash. the cheapest i pay for my gas is 46 p a litre but some places are nearly 60. but compared to 110p for petrol
thats still a big saving. just make sure you intend to keep the car for a good couple of yrs to get your money back unless you do 18000 a year like me.

the car starts on petrol for a couple of minutes then switches over to gas when at correct temp. you can switch back to petrol anytime you want to via a little button on the dash. when the car runs out of gas it automatically switches back to petrol. so you can run on either.
Ive had LPG for over 10 years now on my VR6 and on my LCR which is throwing out around 270bhp no problem with the system but my advise would be to go with the best manufacturer of LPG equipment when it comes to squirting/spraying large volumes of gas that company is PRINS. The beauty of a Leon is you can get a 11 gallon doughnut tank in the spare wheel well and then just carry a bottle of tyre inflator/foam fixer.

Does LPG affect Road Tax premium at all, also do you have to tell your insurance company?
I'm, wondering several things:
1) will kits and fitting get cheaper as presumably this will become more popular due to rising petrol prices? if it were nearer to £1k then it would be tempting.
2) Will the b*****d government start putting more duty on LPG when they realise what's happening?
3) Presumably this is one mod that could actually put UP the value of your car so you might get some of the investment back when you sell it?

road tax is cheaper but only by about 20 quid per year. i think it would add value to the car as the car would be cheap to run, and then people would be prepared to pay a little more for the car
I was only joking really. Could you not hide the extra filler inn the boot somewhere? I saw it done on a mk3 golf, was genius. Could you swap use of the tanks so you had the 55l gas tank and a small petrol tank in the boot, or is this a bit of a health and safety issue with all that gas?

the gas tank i have in my boot is 55 litres but only holds about 46 to allow for expansion or something like that. it costs about 20 quid to fill and lasts for around 230 miles. and thats not driving slowly either.
as mentioned previously you said you run off petrol, then gas then when gas runs out it uses petrol again...so im guessing using gas adds 230miles to a full tank of petrol for 20quid?
guess the idea is to keep it topped up with lpg

Nope unfortunateley not as they are more sophisticated these days and fitting properley and testing takes a full 5 working day period and watch out coz theres still some cowboys out there.

LPG used to be about 40p a liter 12 months ago now nearly 60p a litre. Doesn`t sound much compared to the price of petrol and diesel but still nearly 25% increase in 12 months ! I have an account with a company called coutrywide farmers. they have lpg sites spread throughout the midlands wales and bristol area. they charge 46p a litre at the moment.

hey devonmikeyboy i just checked my location book for countrywide farmers and i see there is a filling station in wellington and one in crewkerne. dont now if you are near those places but may be worth a look? will have to open an account with them if you do and the money goes out direct debit monthly. Normally the gas is available 24/7. just need a key for the machine.

I heard the goverment is going to tax it like every other fuel by 2010? If so its going to be just as much, and inturn anyone getting in done now, unless you recoupe the savings in the next 18 months will loose out?

well tax on LPG is going to stay lower than other fuels when everything else gets 2p, LPG gets 1p increase. April 2010 all fuel gets 5p + inflation including LPG...but LPG will stay half price of petrol/diesel until atleast 2010 and i doubt it'll increase rapidly after that to match petrol...so you could safely say it would remain close to half the price of petrol for atleast the next 5 years or so...
doubt il be keeping my LCR for 5 years though and i only do 7000-8000miles a year so doubt it would really pay off for me unless government decides to give me a grant for the conversion

I run both for more power as it works out alot cheaper then buying uprated injectors+fitting+mapping plus i cannot get uprated injectors for my car unless i pay about £5000 for a custom made set. Probably works out cheaper but not worth fitting to a diesel car if you just want to save money as you use very little LPG on top of the required diesel. It`s not like a petrol car where the petrol stops getting used and the car runs on just LPG i always run diesel with just a top up of LPG.
@easyryder1978 Thanks for the info but my local LPG place is 2 minutes from my place on the way to work. The nearest countrywide place would take a good 45minute special round trip so not worth the cost saving.

true but the longer you have the same car and put off the conversion then the more out of pocket you'll be.
