Nice choice in colour, I have only once seen another in that bright orange..... it was travelling south into newport on the M50 a few weeks back. I thought it really suited the shape of the car, more than my black FR! Enjoy!

Talking about orange colours

Heres mine

I really like the black alloys with the orange - but I really didn't want to go for 18s

Performance. I know lots just go for looks. Some also kid themselves that extra grip = better handling. But it doesn't and I go for good handling over fashion.

Each to their own though, I know for a lot of people, they are happy to sacrifice a little performance for the looks - and they do look nice.

Unusual Dave - I have had measuring equipment and tested lots of configs and unless you replace heavy (usually cheap aftermarket makes) with quite exotic materials, very rare you would get better performance. The extra rubber weighs a lot. What did you measure the differences with? And as you state slower rather than performance, I guess you are talking acceleration rather than handling.

Well the car was always originally on the seat sport 18" bbs' but i changed them to the Merc segins which are half the weight in comparison. I was running Toxis 17s off his altea whilst mine were getting sprayed and it did not want to pull at all. Acceleration and top end is better on the 18s as well.

ah but the td pro race 1.2 and oz racing alleggrita's all weigh less than the std 18's soooo you could have black alloys, less weight and better looks.

but good race wheels in black and 17" would weigh even less, not be overtyred and so maintain better balance in the handling....... it isn't just acceleration - handling is priority for me. It will stay stock though - I do the track stuff in the Honda and I have my own tame race engineer to do that stuff for me :D

MorleyMackam - I'm not far from Selby but commute to Grimsby and often see a black Mk2 Leon FR with private plate that reads "Rick". It looks really nice, but black no good when you do the miles I do, and I wanted a 'stand out' colour. I love the orange.

I'm near Selby as well. Small world! I'm sure I'll come across you at some point then. Seen a few FRs about but someone in my village has trumped me with a lovely white K1 with black wheels.

As for an Xscape meet, sounds a cracking idea.

Looks the business to me the orange. Regards wheels and performance lets not forget that this is only a 170bhp diesel and whilst they handle well on the limit I find that ultimately its the body roll and weight upfront that would give more issues than the width of your tyres. It's not an out an out performance car, just one to give you a nice smile whenever you floor it in 3rd (that becomes quite obsessive )

Absolutely agree Moley RUFC, but I would still not wish to make changes that downgrade what I want from a car..... been there, done that in another car (big wheels/huge brakes/heavy reccaro seats - all removed and sold at huge loss and spent money again getting the better sized lighter wheels/thicker but smaller brakes/lightweight race seats) and as I made each change, I connected the laptop and datalogger etc and was surprised at the benefits. In fairness, I don't think I'd noticed the drop in performance (or had convinced myself it was slight) but on going back - it was very noticeable and the datalogger more than substantiated.
But yes, front end weight will always be the main handling downfall with the Leon, plus it is a heavy car anyway. Still lots of fun for a mainstream car, and compared to the other cars it competes with, the looks are much better and the seats are too.

I am not getting good economy at the moment, I suspect/hope this improves once I have a few more miles on it.

Morleymackam - if I see a yellow FR - I will flash/wave :)

Fortunately I'm used to admiring glances/stares ;)

Craig - will try to get some pics if the rain stops. Was dark when I collected and during daylight hours, I'm at work..... so weekend really before I've chance.

I live in Grimsby, will look out for your FR, I've got a black FR550, never seen an orange one in person, don't even think Grimsby has one to be honest haha :) Have lots of fun with your FR, I love mine :D

Danny.

I'm new to Seat cars - what's a FR550? Black ones do look good.
