Telford ay it...
That sounds really good, what's the noise like cruising?

I love driving the missus's, a tad underpowered and tight fitting but It can skin my mk4 on the country lanes. Rides the bumps and ruts really well and feels planted.

Not sure I've not cruised anywhere for ages! It's noisey under load, crackles & pops on overrun a bit.

I do want to take it across to Germany to do a lap before I break it at the end of the year (have been given the green card to buy an MEV Exocet kit :D)

Well that's cooked it. Went out last night & the clutch totally expired on the way home at 1am.

Luckily it was only 0.5miles from home so I parked up & walked home & called the AA out this morning.

Amusingly it just sat with the car in gear not able to 'grip' at all - so I've got it back in the garage & will strip it down to see what's totally knackered, and what needs replacing.

As regard to kit cars..... I've been lusting over this for a few days now.... 150bhp & 330kg :D

That must be as close as you can get to a road legal kart. How much?? :D

What's it like to change the clutch? I recall there being an engine subframe being in the way for most things.

The kit is about £4.5k, then you need an engine & wheels... so probably £7k I would think.

Might be too nutty

Damnit M0rk, you're going to beat me to MEV's door! :) I've got my eye on a Sonic7 but I just don't have the money yet. The saving has begun though!

I was tempted by the Rocket or the Exocet but I need at least some level of practicality. Open top is enough for me, open sides just seems like tempting UK weather far too much!

The kit cars actually can work out cheaper than book price, mainly because you can resell a good proportion of the donor. That Atomic may cost 4.5K for the kit, maybe 1-2K for a good donor, but selling all the parts you don't need will recover some of that. The final price of the Exocet is based on the fact you can sell so much of the MX5.

Well I've got a clutch, it's in the air... I don't have WD40, and I really ought get the back of the car up in the air as well (so I need another pair of axle stands as I seem to have lost a pair in a house move)

A quick look around under the car suggests this should be OK - with only minimal bolts that won't survive & will need cutting off (exhaust / decat) so I'll crack on with that next weekend I think

Well it's down on the ground again. I couldn't be assed with the Clutch so I dragged it up onto the road earlier today & it's being picked up tomorrow :)

For the clutch to actually be fitted, and a fresh MOT.

Insurance renewed for £82 FC after a grand total of 1800km were used of the 2414 limit.

All things being well I'll run it to Germany in August for a weekend of using up left over laps, and that'll probably see me through until a refresh next summer.

Only a slight squeaky alternator belt suggests it's not in A1 condition mechanically (mullered clutch aside)

MOT passed, with zero issues (except an advisory of some corrosion on the subframe)

Clutch was a total arse for the garage though, so the labour bill was steep. But that said - it now grips & slips very very well :)

Obviously now I have a clutch, it's been getting some use in the nice weather

So I took the camera mount out & filmed the Hindhead Tunnel http://youtu.be/xVidA4EzC7c & http://youtu.be/F0Yi-SBnQCk

Also, I checked my insurance - no cost extra to go abroad, so next month I'm going to take it to Germany for a long weekend & use the remaining laps on my 'Ring Card

So I think I'll be fitting a stereo back in then.

Would definitely take the MX5 to the ring before breaking it.

My mate loves his around there (running a 1.8 16v on ITB's), it shows up alot of cars on there.

Shove some R888's on = mental :D

That MEV looks nutty...so I love it ;) lol

Top down with some euro dance tunes blasting around ring

Good call though, should be fun. I imagine it will be a whole different ball game with the rwd.

Well the 'Ring preps started & finished today

Changed the front brake pads for some new much harder pads; first time I've done that & it was the easiest I've seen aside from a Brembo setup. An hour long test drive and bedding in showed a much better pedal feel.

Other jobs included a level check on all the fluids (all OK); spanner check on the suspension (all OK)

Hoovering out the insides as it's been some time since it needed it

Fitting my bucket seat :)

Just a watch on the weather to determine if that goes in two weeks time, or if I decide that MPG and cheaper breakdown costs are the winner

Oh, and I put the NS mirror back on too :)

Lexus 4.0 V8 seems to be the conversion of choice at the moment... the subframes for the LS1 are ££££'s
