Hi guys,

At the weekend I had fitted a new set of 18" aftermarket wheels for my Leon.
These have a machine polished/diamond cut face...

Whats the best product to use on this surface to help keep it free from corrosion/harm ?

Being more 'exposed' than the painted part of the wheel, will need more protection.
Was in Halfords last night and they had Autoglym Metal Polish. Would this work?

Dont want to use a product that dulls this finish or even stains it, doing more harm than good. Appreceiate any feedback. :)

Do not use metal polish on machine faced wheels as they are lacquered.

Only way to care for them is by keeping them clean and using a crystal based sealant from G-Techique or Nanolex.

Thank you Jonjay for your swift feedback,

This is why I didnt follow the advice of the 'staff' in Halfords!
He even suggested I buy THREE wheel products, which work best used together.

I thought to myself, I wont buy anything now, I'll first check with the very knowledgeable guys on SCN ....as I could understand he was fobbing me off (didnt have a clue himself)!

So keep up with regular washes, plus will look into the sealants that you recommend.

The guy who fitted the wheels said periodically, check for stone chips on the polished face too. Then these should be filled with a little lacquer / or even a dab of nail varnish.

..... I sometimes wonder why we put ourselves through all this pain, getting flash wheels, plus making our cars look great, only to then drive around on dodgy british pot holed roads, then leave our cars in public car parks, for easy pickings by thieves / those that have no respect for others property!

Bring back the days of the horse and cart !! :D

It is possible to keep the wheels looking nice. I had my machine faced wheels looking wheel for a year then they started milking in small areas. It wasn't too bad but still bothered me. I recently had them all refurbed and touch wood they have been ok so far - just got to keep up with the protection.

Hmm, but thats not good, and Im sure sure you looked after yours very well !

The guy where I had them fitted suggested I remove them over the winter months and fit cheapy winter wheels, to keep these new ones in top condition. Sorry, but I want them on my car ALL year round :D - just have to keep up with the cleaning and protecting, as you indicate. :)
